alright i have just installed a 38mm tial wastegate on my 2g ported exhaust manifold. i put the valuve part of the wastegate to the manifold and bolted it up im running a small red spring for boost... the car boosts like 5-6lbs of boost but the gate is facing upwards im going to have a dump tube made in the next day or two hopefully and reinstall my mbc as well.. when the car reaches 5lbs of boost the gate opnes and it sounds like it sputters im totally stumped is this normal ? ive only driven the car maybe 25 miles like this and the first 10-15 i couldnt boost blew off a fmic pipe so any advice input would be greatful thanks guys

one problem i had

One day i was driving around boosting fine, all of the sudden the car spits and spudders and feels like it fuel cuts, i thought ...WTF?!... so i pull over, look over the engine and low and behold, the dump tube weld had broken and the dump tube was long gone. I guess the exhaust gas was spraying in the engine compartment and getting sucked in the intake, and either the inert gasses (burnt air/fuel exhaust ) couldnt be burnt again and was causing the spuddering since its dead air, or it was screwing with my maf readings, or maybe both. Long story short, i got a new dump tube welded up and the car ran fine again, so get a dump tube made and you will be all good. Also you should dump that manifold and get one where the flange has been welded in the right spot, you tried this way and it didnt work. Having the WG face up is ghetto, stop trying to get that manifold to work, you should have test fitted things before welding the flange on.

Good luck

i can face the wastegate down but if i do that ill never get a dump tube on. if i put another flange on for the tube i hit a bolt for the 02 housing....ill see about geting a dump tube made today i hope i was also wondering on the wastegate im using the bottom nipple and i just leave the other one untuched? nothing gets hooked up to it ?

Yes, connect your vacuum source to the bottom nipple and leave the top one open, unless you are using an electronic boost controller. If you're dumping onto your hood, I wouldn't go around boosting anymore. I would fix that first and report back. I would imaging a J pipe type of dump tube can be fabricated.

It sounds like it's working correctly. The small red spring should put you at about 6 PSI.

It's never good to dump exhaust gas underneath the hood. When you say "facing upwards", I'm assuming that you've got it set-up without a dumptube. That's where I'd start. Aim the gate in a direction that exits the engine bay and then use a dumptube to direct the exhaust gas out of the bay.

Also, you shouldn't ever be blowing off IC pipes with only 6 PSI. If so, you have issues there as well.

Last but not least, please work on you capitalization and punctuation in the tech forums. The easier it is for us to read your posts, the better we are to help/diagnose.
