i have a decent amoutn of shaft play, in and out shaft play on an Evo big 16G laying around my house. its not enough thats when it spins it hits anything, but maybe 1/8 of an inch. I was wondering if it was possible to rebuild it with a tdo6H wheel and how much of a difference it would make. also if there are any rebuild kits that maybe include the wheel with the kit? any and all info appreciated!!
 
It can be done but you are also going to have to take the turbine housing to a shop that can machine it to accept the larger TD06H turbine wheel, as it won't be a direct bolt on. As for if its worth it, I have no personal experience but guys have seen 42 lb/min out of the evoIII with the std. TD05 wheel. I don't think the turbine wheel is really a limiting factor, I think the compressor wheel is probably maxed out by these levels & adding a larger turbine wheel will net you slower spool times & not much of a difference in top end. But then again, I may be wrong on this issue & am interested on other peoples opinion as well.
 
thats impressice numbers for a 16g. id be happy with that. so jsut a basic rebuild will do and then send it to a machine for balancing. i'd prabably do it myself. any one know of a good rebuild kit ??and who can do the balancing?
 
Yes 42 lb/min is really pushing alot of air though the evoIII. This obviously isn't the typical "street" results for most. I saw about 34-35 lb/min out of my evoIII but that was at 22psi pre cams & 18 psi with cams. To see the 42 lb/min you'll need to be in the 25 or so psi range, with cams & on race gas or pump with meth injection.

If you were running the stock T25, the most you can expect out of it is about 25-26 lb/min, so the evoIII is a nice jump. As for the rebuild kit, there was just a post somewhere on the forums I read this morning on that vary subject. Think most DSM shops will also offer rebuild kits, Forced Performance is one example who also could do the rebuild for you, if you wanted to go that route & do the balancing. I would imagine there are some local shops to you that can also do the balancing job. I know Cherry Turbo's isn't too far away from you but it is in Ontario, so don't know if you want the border hassle.
 
well i had my 16g on there and ran 12.5 with stock suspension 18 psi of boost i beleive and all season tires, then i put a gt-35r on and i need to build my block up to run full boost on it and right now it is too laggy, so untill i build my block up, i want to put my 16g back on, and i notiched it had some in/out shaft play so i figure why not get it running good before it blows up. LOL

I would probably just go with a stock rebuild for the time being. This would be the cheepest route & still offer pretty good performance while your waiting to install the GT35R setup. Just get it rebuild before the compressor wheel starts eating compressor housing, as this will add a good amount more to the repair bill.
