How hot does a CHRA get?

Temperature will vary a bit depending on the type of CHRA: Watercooled as opposed to oil only. No hard numbers though.

Are you trying to use it instead of a paper gasket? If so why?
 
Watercooled. I'm not trying to use it instead. I'm just wondering about why people suggest using it in a situation where it will exceed it's maximum rating, if that is actually the case.
 
I've seen people suggest using RTV on both sides of the oil drain to CHRA gasket. My question is, doesn't that get hot enough to melt the RTV? If not, is there a problem with using just RTV? Why?

I would have to NOT condone this type of behavior . . . you definitely do not want to get any RTV dingles blocking the gravity fed oil return. I personally have never needed to use any RTV to get things to seal up.

However, if you still feel it necessary, make sure to only use a very slight skim (just enough so the gasket can adhere to the drain tube fitting (stock, -AN bulk head, etc . . .)

It won't get much hotter than your oil and coolant. It'd better not ever see any 700°, or you'll have coke in there instead of oil, and no water. Gasket seal shouldn't be needed, but I'd spray it with copper because I just do that sort of thing. Be sure to use crush washers under the heads of the mounting bolts on the pan, and do not over-torque them- just good and snug.
