I'm going to be purchasing a FP red within the next few days... My question is which exhaust size should I get? Should I get the 8cm^2 or the 7cm^2? This will be a daily driven warrior.. It will see occasional drag strip, a lot of street action.. I'm looking for 400whp on a decently built motor reving to 9k...

I would go with the 8cm for sure. Its gonna flow more up top when your reving that high. It will be a less bottleneck for your set-up.

Sure 8cm will help out the top end even more but for 400 whp, defently not needed. A local guy is running the red with the 7cm housing & I believe is around the 500 awhp mark (and your fwd). Personally from what you want your main use to be, Id probably go for the 7 cm, an actual user that revs that high should chime in but I would imagine you'll still pull to 9000 on a proper setup (ie cams, smim, etc) with the smaller housing. Unless you really don't care about spool, then go with the 8 if you think you goals will change in the future.

What kind of spool time are we talking about here with the 8? I know my PTE is around the 4600 mark

Because theres a conversion coming at a later time ;) X
