I have a Talon and run a gt42 turbo. We have blown up this thing twice. The first time it self destructed and the exhaust wheel came out the exhaust dump. The second time we caught it in time but has massive shft play.
We run 2 BOV`s.We run the oil line off the cyl head and use a #12 drain.

Any help out there.

Tony

Is it a GT42 or a GT42R? Do you have an oil filter on the feed line?

It`s a regular gt42 non ballbearing. We do not run a oil filter on the feed line.

My question is can you run the oul feed off the head or do you need to run it off the filter housing. We spoke to some people and they say don`t run it off the head.

We also run a 2step that backfires hard when on it.

Well the backfiring isn't good but that turbo should be able to take it. I would first put a filter on the feed line. Who knows what kind of trash could have gotten in there. Second I would run the oil feed off the filter housing to give that big turbo a adequate oil supply.

If its bad/broken you should probably look into sending it out to the manufacturer to have them look into what caused the failure. They are proffesionals and should be able to see what is wrong with it. From there you can probably start finding your problem.

This turbo requires more oil than can be supplied from the cylinder head.

Generally speaking, standard journal bearing turbos from 60-1 on up will live longer & happier lives if fed from the oil filter housing.

If it was a GT42R, then the head would be an acceptable feed source.
