Well after blowing the seals in my last turbo (50 trim Turbonetics) I just picked up a PTE GT3561SP turbo. It uses Garrett internals and has a standard 360* Journal bearing system, not ball bearing.

Anyways, I have concerns as to what the optimal oil pressure should be. I have heard that 55-60psi is optimal. However I just called PTE and they said 50-85 is ok, while 80+ being on the high side. I informed him about my engine and that I have 120psi on cold starts, and 75+ psi at 3k RPM's when hot and climbs to 85-90 psi as the RPM's go up. I also informed him that I was running a -4 AN feed line to the old turbo previously. He told me that some people have been having good luck switching to a -3 AN feed line, rather than putting a restrictor in the line.

I don't want to void any warranty's and I really don't want to blow any more seals.

So should I run a -3 line? Run a restrictor in the -4 line? Or what?

Thanks Dan.

Dan, have you ported your oil relief valve (the one in the filter housing) yet?
If so, I'd go with the -3AN line in lieu of a restrictor.

Also make sure to get the largest possible diameter drain line (mineis 5/8") and ensure that either you have a working PCV system or have at least two -10AN vents off the valve cover to dissipate crankcase pressure :) :DSM:

Actually, that is on the list for the winter months also. I know my oil pressure is too high and I will be performing this mod.

I run a -10 drain, thats about 5/8 I think.

I run 3 -6AN vents off the valve cover, is that adequate?

Sounds good Dan, though may want to first see how well the pressure comes down with the ported housing. With the mod, pressure should not go over 100psi unless you are turning 9k+ RPMs.

Also running a lighter weight oil will definitely help (you're not using he Royal Purple 20W50 anymore right)?

BTW, -10 SS line is < 5/8 ID" whereas the Blue Pushlock line is a true 5/8" ID. :dsm:

Yeah I agree. I'd still bet that running a -3an line would provide enough oil even with the ported housing.

I'm running Mobil 1 15w50. Its a good bit lighter than RP 20w50.

-10 Pushlock here.
