Possible Blown Turbo?
Well heres whats up, the other night me and my buddy went for a nice drive through the mountains, well about half way through i noticed my car being real laggy so we pulled over and i popped the hood. The turbine housing was red hot literally. So i figured something was up so we heded home. Got the car home and it turned out that along the drive somewhere i managed to tear a hole in my lower IC piping. So that led me to believe my turbo was glowing because it was spinning much more than it really should of been trying to get to boost. So i fixed that and pulled off my intake to check the turbo. Well there was no shaft play, but when you spun the turbine it would spin easy and the get hard to spin and then easy again. Now even though i pretty much know the answer to this question im gonna ask it anyway. Is my turbo gone? Oh and just in case its not, whats up?
By the way its a mitsu 18g and it only had 700 miles on it.

It sounds to me like you might have bent your shaft.
Look inside and see if you can see the compressor wheel hitting the housing, or scratch marks anywhere on the housing where the compressor wheel might have made contact as well.
Looks like it's time for a rebuild.

If the shaft wasn't bent you could buy a rebuild kit and do it yourself.... but since the shaft has to be replaced, your compressor wheel is going to have to be balanced on it.

If you absolutely must drive, STAY OUT OF BOOST. What will eventually happen is... assuming your turbo doesn't chunk to pieces first.... your bearing(s) will prematurely wear and you'll be spitting out a very very nice James Bond style smoke screen. Trust me, I've blown a turbo before. It's more smoke then you would think... and if that happenns, then you have no car.
If it has to be driven, I'd say pull off the wastegate actuator so you absolutely can not hit boost... and baby it to hell. Either way... the turbo isn't going to last too long.
Good luck man.

Not a problem ... like I said baby it, no boost, and it should last those 2 weeks. ... also be prepaired for very very bad gas mileage.
