what would be the best for controlling my boost? should I go with a Manuel or electronic?
I own a 94 tsi and still have the stock 14g turbo but very soon upgrading to a 16gb...
I am lost with this whole boost control any help or knowledge would be great....:thumb:

For most people, a ball and spring MBC satisfies all of their needs. They're relatively cheap, easy to use, and easy to install. Use the nipple on the 14b's J-pipe for a boost source going into the MBC, then run the outlet hose of the MBC directly to your wastegate. That's it. Simple.

To answer his question, thats not the "best" option though. Unless were talking pricewise heh.

A manual should definetly suit your needs. Though an electronic would allow more control and more solid boost control. Of course that comes at a much higher cost.

what would be a good choce of brand to go with? manuel wise....

For you manual boost control, I would go with Joe P MBC

http://www.joepmbc.com/mbc.html

As you can see from the link, they have a few to choose from. If you need anymore help just ask.

Also, electric boost control is terrible, It is not reliable and changes frequently. MBC such as the Joe P or Hallman offer rock solid boost response and dont change to much.

I agree.... MBC all the way. Everyone I know that has had an EBC, was glad the switched to an MBC

I have the Hallman ES myself

pretty easy to hook up? want to be able to adjust from my cab......

The problem most people have with EBC's is that they dont know how to adjust them. A properly configured EBC will be more stable then a MBC. For example when it gets cold out... your boost wont rise as it would with a manual. From my experience with a manual, once the boost hits it always spikes. Its just not rock solid. Even if that spike is only 1 or 2psi, that could be all it takes to detonate. A properly configured EBC should be able to control that.

Ideally, you want the vacuum lines going to and from the MBC to be as short as possible to allow for the fastest boost response possible. Running an MBC directly into your cockpit is possible, but the lines have to be extremely long, and this can affect the effectiveness of the MBC. The Hallman Pro Evolution has an in-cockpit adjusting knob that you can mount in the cabin, while the actual MBC stays in the engine bay.

In all reality, however, you won't be changing the boost level all that often. I've had my Hi-Performance TurboXS set at the same psi for about a year and a half and haven't touched it since.

The other option for MBC boost control from in the cabin is a dual-stage boost controller. Two MBC's connected together, set at different psi's and activated by a switch that you can mount in the cabin. TurboXS makes a good one, and now I see DejonPowerhouse carries one as well.

I have a Blitz dual stage EBC and I love it. Have had not one problem, always boost to here I set it and the best thing is that all I have to do is turn the knob and more boost! I have never had a MBC though, so I can't say which is better...

Agreed.

Also shouldn't a ebc spool a little faster because you can set it up to not open until it hits your set psi? I would imagine that as the pressure builds on the back side of that ball of a mbc it pushes against it and some of the air signal gets by. And if thats the case we could always hear my friends open dump open at like 7psi.

I run a Greddy Profec Type S EBC & it works great. An ebc is more stable then a mbc IF setup properly and offers more adjustments. The problem is people buy an ebc & don't bother to learn how to use it or buy one that is way to advanced for their setup, then complain they don't work. EBC's are more expensive but personally I think my Type S is defently worth the price I paid. If you want a MBC, I'd recommend JoeP, their new IL series works great. If you want an EBC that works great and is very user friendly, go with the Greddy profec type s. Just depends what your looking for as to which route to go.

Yes depending on the EBC you can get the turbo to spool faster the a MBC.

I've been using a $12 ebay MBC for like 2 years. I might have got lucky, but it holds even boost logged via 3.3bar/dsmlink. 14b/mbc is perfect for 13's. When you get into larger turbos you want a boost controler that will help limit boost creep/spiket. Thats where the EBC comes in.

I like both but I prefer the Greddy Profec B II. It does alot of cool stuff like being able to control the boost gain and peak. It alsoreads boost way more acureratly than a boost gauge does too. The only draw back is the price.

Yup. :thumb:
But I lucked out and picked mine up for $90.

how hard would it be to hook up a EBC? what is a good ebc first time ebc to learn on?

:thumb: whats the differnce between the greddy profec b 2 and blitz dual sbc spec-r? I'm liking the blitz so far but just need some more owener info...

To stb94tsi: Its really easy. The main things that you have to worry about are getting the harness through the firewall safely, and not tapping the BOV line. I did mine in about 40min. mounted and all. (pics in profile)

I am not sure about the difference between the two, as I have only used the Greddy. However, the Greddy was easy to use/tune after reading the manual and finding a few useful threads I came across from searching miscellaneous forums and such.

I own a Blitz DSBC and did use a manual boost controller before.

the Blitz is not easy to set right.. but if ## set it right the car just have freaking more power than with the manual controller. (@same PSI!)

The Turbo is able to spool way faster and if u set it very agressiv (little boostspikes when boost builds up) its even faster.

If you want ease of use in a ebc, go Greddy Profec Type S. Only has 3 knobs, one for low boost, one for high boost and one for the gain. It came out as a replacement for the old type b that everybody loved, since the spec II seemed to be too complicated for some users.

youre awd. the need for different levels at different gears is useless.

get a mbc, set it and forget it.

now on my gst i ran a dual stage mbc from dejon tool. launched at 11ish psi with little wheelspin and a smooth but powerful 1st and 2nd, and then flicked the switch and hit 20psi in 3rd.
