I recently bought a knock off bov from ebay (40 shipped). Then my friend was selling his real Greddy type-s for 60 with the top screw stripped out. I decided to buy his and use the hat from the knock off to make the real greddy work again. I decided to take pics of each and show people what makes them different.
I tested the use of the Knock off on my car at 15psi at the softest spring setting. At the softest spring setting I was getting compressor surge at 15psi, indicated by the fluttering noise emitted from the bov. After a few test runs of this I removed this bov and swapped the hat from the unstripped bov(knock off) onto the top of the real type-s.
Sorry for the crappy pics. Crappy Digi cams take crappy pics.
This is a picture of the Fake Greddy and the way the hat is sealed.
It uses this rubber skirt type thing that gets sealed buy a rubber O-Ring on the top of that hat shown here
This is the real Greddy
The Material that seals the hat is made of a much higher quality and appears to be much stronger.
The hat of the Real Type-S. No rubber O-Ring because it doesnt need one.
I cant accurately comment on the spring rates of each bov but to me they felt as if they had te same resistance.
Fake Greddy
Real Greddy
There are also color differences that may indicate that the spring retainers are made out of different materials or it could be that the real greddy's color has changed due to age.
Pic of the interior mechanisms of the Fake and Real Greddy (respectively)
These are merely pics of the visual differences. It seems that the knock off is pretty decent and would work fine for a while but its long term durability is questionable. The knock off would work great for higher boost levels. I however will be sticking with the Real Greddy.
