Sidney,
I puff blue every time I start the car (after it sits for more than a few minutes) also puffs at high boost. I'm going though a litre of oil a month and I'm pretty sure its the turbo. The engine was rebuilt 5K ago, compression at 162psi accross and a brand new head (cracked old one). It still boosts great though. I don't have the money to upgrade, and since all I do is autoX, a turbo upgrade isn't that important (big = lag). I've been told its just seals, and they can just be done insted of a sending it off complete rebuild and balance ect.

I was reading the VFAQ turbo and it appears that this is true. Anybody followed the VFAQ with success? Also where is the best place to get the parts?

I've rebuilt 14b's and 16gs using the vfaq as a guide. Some i've sent be rebalanced. A few I haven't. I am running one that used the vfaq method of marking the nut/wheel so that you put it back together as close to balanced as possible. Still running good @ 50k ish miles on my 94 tsi.

I did an ebay dealio for the rebuild kit, and once got one from FP. Neither had any issues.

I think i might go with the rebuild. I've got a turbo dodge guy that has rebuilt about 5 T3/T4's so if i run into issues he'll he a wealth of knowledge
