Details please. I am curious to know what happened to your turbo (not your buying experience).Stapl3 said:I've used this turbo and it's complete garbage. I cannot stress strongly enough to run far, far away from it.
Stapl3 said:You're getting ahead of yourself. It's a matter of there being a seal or not. Mine and many others didn't have one.
You have got to be kidding me. This is hands down the most ridiculous post I have read on this forum.Coup D E'Tat said:I see it as a "you should've known better" problem. You can't say the turbo is garbage if you didn't realize you needed to RTV it. Granted, no turbo should come like this, but you have to work with what you've got.
It is well documented on dsmtalk in a multiple page thread there was no seal to begin with. These were leaking before being touched and only opened to try to fix it.my98GST said:the two problems we
had with the covers leaking were from customers removing the cover and not
replacing the seal between it and the backplate.

It's summed up pretty much in post #8.99gst_racer said:Details please. I am curious to know what happened to your turbo (not your buying experience).
That's it? You had a leaky compressor cover, and you consider the entire turbocharger to be crap?Stapl3 said:It's summed up pretty much in post #8.

Work with what I got? It was brand fcuking new. I shouldn't have to open it up and RTV it. Get a clue.

My Turbonetics, my friend's PTE, and my other friend's Garrett were all "brand ####ing new" and not one had a seal.
Whether or not I should have to or not is entirely the case. Why should I have to take my brand new turbocharger out of the box and take it apart to RTV it? That's insane. I shouldn't have to do anything to it. I paid over 1000 dollars for a brand new unit and it should perform flawlessly. It's my fault I didn't take the wastegate actuator and compressor housing off it and RTV it before using? That's like buying a brand new car and pulling the motor to replace the main seal before driving it off the lot.Coup D E'Tat said:Tough shit, man. Whether or not you "should have to" isn't the case. If it doesn't come with a seal, seal it yourself, or sell your car and sit in the corner because not everything goes your way.

Don't be a SBR nutswinger and come in this thread with your BS. Call up FP and ask them if their turbos should be RTV'd before install. Somehow I doubt it.
"Well SBR wants me to send it back to them again. They assure me that the so-called Garret composite seal is supposed to be there and its the only way to seal these (although it wasnt there the first time). They also claim that more then 60% of these are fine with no gasket because of the machined surface edge but during the "rebuilding phase" the arret sealers is needed. I tried to explain that this is not in a rebuilding phase its brand new but they offered no other option. I called Turbochargers and talked with Tommy and he told me that composite seal is not the way to fix this and they are giving me a bunch of BS."

A turbocharger with a leaky compressor cover is an easy fix.Stapl3 said:A turbocharger with a leaky compressor cover is crap.
Slowboy said:That is funny, these are the guys who built your turbo.
"This is funny. Tommy at turbochargers took one look at the pics and said the turbo wasn't theirs. This is after SBR orignally blamed Turbochargers for me not having it for two months when I ordered it. SBR told me they sent it back twice to turbochargers to get it clipped like I wanted it and both times it came back not clipped. So I received a non-clipped turbo but after 2 months was happy I saw it at all."Slowboy said:If the turbo does not come with a seal, it does not come with a seal. If you would like to argue it some more (2 yrs later, or is it coming up on 3 now?) maybe you should call the guys who built it at T.com. We stopped selling this turbo years and years ago.
