Toronto,
Hi guys,

I have done a lot of research and read countless threads on the DNP manifolds and can't find an answer to my question.

I have never been one to care about spool and love my FP3065 but this past summer I noticed my spool between shifts was a little slow as I reach down in the 11's and I would like to improve my transient response.

Because of my Mitsubishi houseing I am looking at this DNP manifold.

What I am not sold on is the design of this manifold. By looking at the picture, the runners look like they are too tight with too many bends. I have also seen guys with pretty nice setups have this manifold and then sell it and purchase a different designed manifold. Is this because the design doesn't spool a turbo as good as other designs?

I have looked at other manifolds and don't feel like paying an arm and a leg for anything else if this DNP design is going to do the same as them, but if it isn't then I guess will be looking else where. So what do you guys think of this design....will it spool turbos just as good as any other design?

Also does anyone know why you can't get the mitsubishi 7cm flange on this DNP manifold. It looks like it only comes with the t3 flange.

Thanks

Just curious if the problem is more due to an exhaust leak rather than your exhaust manifold itself. I love my DNP, spools my 50trim pretty quickly. Also, it spools it nicely on part throttle for daily driving.

Nope checked everything out as far as any leaks, all looks good. I wondered the same as a lot of people compliment the 3065 with it’s between shift response. Don't get me wrong it isn't bad and part of that is the fact that it is a big turbo and just what you live with. But I have heard tubular manifolds help spool dramatically and think that might be my next step.

Thanks for the pics, its nice to see the manifold on a car. I do like that it isn't much bigger and maybe even smaller then the stock manifold.

Have you looked into an SBR or Straight Line Specialties manifold? I believe they sell very nice tubular manifolds w/ Mitsu style flanges.

I would also recommend calling SLS besides checking out their website. SLS' website does not do justice for the fabrication work that Nick @ SLS has done. Here's some good examples: http://dsmstyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9583

Trying different springs in the wastegate can help with boost recovery between shifts.

when do you hit full boost now? and at what PSI?

The DNP's come with mitsu flanges or t3 flanges. Just check the site and read what each mani says. You can get them with or without means for an external wastegate on the mani etc.

I was thinking the same thing. I currently run a 17psi spring....and was thinking of dubbleing up and running a 21 psi spring. I wonder if that will help spool between shifts.

What are your experiences with wastegate springs?

Thats what I noted in my first post. The First picture of the DNP manifold only looks like it comes with the mitsu flange and the bottom pic looks like it only comes with a t3 flange....Why is that?

 It comes with EITHER flange. You specify which flange you want when you order the manifold.

Thats what I would have thought but I went through the ordering process and was never asked for a choice. Actually on their website they say under each manifold its applications and it looks like you can't change the flanges.

Hmm maybe you should call them.

In the picture, is that coolant hose unmodified? I always thought you have to make some changes to the radiator hose to clear the DNP manifold.

I dont know where you got that info from. It obviously fits with no modification as you can see from the STOCK radiator hose.

The Mitsu flanged manifold (the more-compacted one) was designed to be an OEM replacement that would allow use of the stock Mitsu O2 housing/downpipe. The T3 or T4 based manifolds are built without that restriction (likely better flowing as less bends) since you'd need a custom O2 housing (possibly downpipe) for the T3 housing.

I'm sure you could get the T3 with a Mitsu flange and just fabricate your own O2/Downpipe if you wanted to go that route :dsm:

If your even thinking about the DNP. Get it! Well worth the money! Quality! In between 2nd and 3rd my 30 would lag for a sec with a ported EVO mani. When the DNP was installed it eliminated all of the lag between shifts I was experiencing! Like you said It came w/ the territory (Lag) but once you start eliminating it you thank yourself later!

Thanks a lot man, thats the information I was looking for.

DNP just got back to me about changing flanges between their manifolds. They said the manifolds were designed for the flanges they come with and they will not weld on different flanges.

I had the DNP and I cracked it. The welds on 1-4 cracked at the flange closest to the motor, while on AMS' dyno. Went to a ported stocker from AMS and didn't notice any difference in spool up between the two. Now I am an automatic with a high stall and a crappy 20G on a stock motor. ALSO, it cracked because I had it coated and heat wrapped to keep my underhood temps down. Two things I don't recommend doing to this manifold.
