ok so heres the deal, i was going to build my eclipse n/a fwd nonturbo, but suddenly there is a new contender in the ring. a guy at my work has a 3000gt, and he swapped out the VR4 twin turbo motor for a supercharged motor.

he offered the motor to me for $800, he said to anyone else it was $1200, and he said the motor is in perfect running order he only pulled it to drop in his new motor. the only thing is it needs the turbos, he sold them off the motor to a buddy of his. so heres the plan:...

swap out the '91 2.0L DOHC nonturbo, and swap in a VR4 Twin Turbo V6. so here wut i think,

i will need the turbos from 3000gt

i will need the wiring harness for the 3000gt

i will need the computer from 3000gt

now, will the tranny from my 93 eclipse fit this motor? or will i need one from a 3000gt?

i need to weld in my new motor and tranny mounts

instead of running new bent fuel lines, should i run stainless steel braided ones?

i can still run my coolant lines by hand

is there anything else i will need? has anytried this before?

i will appreciate any and all help thanks.

No offense but...

Get out a tape measure and do a little physical research. You will be able to answer your own questions :thumb:

Agreed, hell most people can't get the simple 2.0 turbo motor swap to work right. Go ahead man, try it. It's your money to blow not mine.

not really the replies i was going for, but ok i guess...

i already know i need to relocate my battery, and probably my liquid resivours, and cut some of my wheel wheels to help it fit in. i know it will be a tight squeeze, but im lookin to turn some heads here. is there any help to be had out there?

I'm not sure what replies you expected, but it's probably not worth all the trouble you're going to go through. Why is it that everyone I've ever known who was deadset on being different ended up with a car that ran like shit, poor, and lost their ass on the car after selling it. Then they buy a complete other brand of car because DSM's are just too much work and then follow that next car's upgrade path  WTF

I'm surprised noone has asked about this yet "he swapped out the VR4 twin turbo motor for a supercharged motor." I'd personally love to know what supercharged motor he put into his car in place of the twin turbo 6g72? More importantly why in the hell would you do that in the first place? WTF

agree!
why don't you want to put the same supercharged engine like you friend from VR4 into your car, if you are going to put 6g72??

I am not a big technician, but 4g63 turbo engine is sitting quite tite in the engine bay of Eclipse, i think that 6g72 wont fit it.... no fence..... take a tape and made some measurements before buying something.....

(sorry for speling)

The problem is that there is no supercharged factory engine that would drop into a 3000gt vr4. Not to mention there's not a supercharged production v6 out there that makes more hp than the twin turbo 3.0 6g72 in the vr4 in the first place that would come even close to fitting in there and hooking up to the complicated awd system on every vr4.

The fact that his buddy "sold off the turbos" tells me that the guy probably had a fwd 3000gt that was at best the 220hp na version of the 6g72 and he's trying to offload it onto this kid to make a buck :barf: by lying and telling him its a turbo version when its probably not.

Shit you'd still need the wiring harness, ecu, and transmission from that 3000gt so you're looking at another $1500 in used parts on top of the engine price probably. Not to mention you'll have to hack up the front of the car.

If you really want to go fast do the 2.0 turbo swap the right way like I did and be done with it.

another thing you have to worry about is suspension. realize that that motor is quite a bit heavier and the stock springs will not cut it. be ready to spend $1500+ for custom coilovers. another thing to consider is custom axles and possibly a custom driveshaft. you could run an ecu from the 3000gt but it would be easier to run a standalone ecu. and like it was before mentioned...you will have to hope its the fwd version. to do it right, you should tube frame the front end...

take some measurements and see if it will even fit. custom swaps are expensive. look to spend a minimum of $5000 for this project. not something to attempt without proper knowledge of the wiring system and drivetrain fabrication

It'd fit great in the hatch.
yea.. u wanna turn heads then thats wat u should do man.. put the engine in the hatch.. then make a whole in the back window and have the intake filter stickin outta there...

no seriously thoughFind out for sure if thats a twin turbo motor first then think about doing all that other crap

I just worked on a Stealth TT yesterday at my shop.... NO WAY are you getting that in there. Hell if you want a fast car, buy mine, and then drop some $ into it and finish it off and make a 10 sec car out of it.

I'm still waiting to hear back from the original poster on this mythical supercharged engine his "buddy" at work dropped in ROFL .

Aren't superchargers supposed to be better then turbochargers?

If this was true about the supercharger for the 6g72 engine, I'm pretty sure people on 3si.org wourld be going crazy over this setup.

My good friend has a 94 3kGT V-R4 and let me tell you right off the bat, you aren't gunna fit a 6g72 engine in YOUR car.

If you accomplish this task, and it runs fast, i'll send ya a cookie.

fine, ok we accomplished the fact that it wont fit. i went and looked at it yesterday, and YES it is the twin turbo motor, he did just remove the turbos.

the supercharged motor he dropped in is a nonturbo V6 3000gt motor, that he has built up and he put a roots type supercharger on it. i dont know why it would be a "supposed supercharged motor"?

so i decided im not going to try it, seeing as how now that i look at it on a stand, it is huge. so im either going to return to my idea of n/a, or if someone on here has a full turbo kit for cheap, it can be stock. post up im interested.

WTF is that abomination? A supercharged intercooled v6 from mitsubishi with a distributor cap? What in the world did that ever come in?

So your buddy gave up a factory twin turbo setup for a built nt 3000gt motor with a roots blower that's primarily designed to make power down low? If he wanted a 2 door grand prix gtp he could've just bought one instead of building an awd one out of his vr4.

Not sure how familiar you are with cars and working on motors. But if you do not even know what you need to do a motor swap, it is going to be a real challenge to fabricate a motor and trans to fit into a car that isnt already designed for it.
I am sure you can find a better project to start that is less difficult and not as expensive

Good luck
