OK, i have been tuning my car via dsmlink for a while now on and off as i get time. I was doing some pulls and tuning last night at about 85+/- outside. My intake temps were 105-107 f. What can i do to lower them? My fmic piping runs right next to my dp and o2 housing. I think this is the problem since they become so hot that they burn your hands (the piping) but after the ic the pipes are a good deal cooler. How can i protect the pipes from the heat or make the ic cooler much more efficiently? Thanks, Brandon [VFRacing]
 
you could try wrapping you ic pipes in that area w/ the reflective heat wrap stuff. that might help a little, or possibly just chose a different way to route your piping... but i know that would be a pita.

The temps that dsmlink shows you (unless you've added an additional sensor) are at the MAF sensor, not after the ic. The way to lower these is to put some sort of shroud around the airfilter, or remove your headlight :sneaky: . I guess if you are creative you could also make up some sort of ducting to move outside air across you air filter.
 
Ok thanks, and i do not have an added temp sensor. I do have the the turbo mani and o2/turbo housing shields in place. I have wrapped the ic pipe with heat wrap but haven't gotten around to wrapping the dp to help some more. And yeah, wrapping the ic piping prob wont do much LOL. I was thinking of making a vent right above my filter similar to the greyforest mod. I would have to fab something though that would let the air in yet would direct any water that might come in away from the filter. But i think a vent their combined with a shroud around the filter would work wonders for intake temps :sneaky: Brandon [VFRacing] PS What should be a fairly reasonable intake temp i should aim for?
 
Even though your right about the intake temps. Am seeing the same temps when i use dsmlink as well. Your best bet is to heatshield the airfilter and make a shroud that brings up the air to the filter. The ecu is already pulling a degree of timing at those temps. Anything over 85F and its already -1 degree just thought i left you know on that.
 
make a 90" pipe and stick the filter in the bumper area where the smic used to be, and right infront of the opening where the smic used to get its air fed through.

or make a heat shroud to keep the filter from getting hot air from the engine bay into it.

with dsmlink, i got around 110-120* intake charges before 50mph, and as i approached the 90mph mark(on a 3rd gear pull) i started to get 80-90* ambient temp air circulated through the engine bay. i never got a chance to make a heat shrould/cai pipe.
