Does anyone know the Spearco core size/# thaty is used in the Doug's Dyno power 2g FMIC kit?

I like the general size and design of the FMIC, but I'd rather make my own piping and also not pay $899 for a core and incomplete piping that appears smaller/ less complete than most others in that price range. Any other core suggestion that would still fit between the fog lamps on a 2gb talon (the DD is a little short) would be greatly appreciated also.

I assume I can get end tanks and cores from Someone like RRE or would I have to fab up my own endtaks using thick wall aluminum tubing and flat sheet?

Thakns, yeah the griffin and spearco cores look exactly the same. jsut one saves you about 200 bucks, or near 500 over DD's asking price for the "kit". I think I could make pipes for $400 bucks don't you?
I need to find my Tape measure and see if the distance between foglights is 24". That would be so much "cooler" than having the gap on each side.

Thanks again.

i would honestly move to a kinetic 2g kit for the 899 price, if I had my way. Instead of being small, it's 24x12x3.5 which is pretty gigantic, plus the piping is a bolt on affair. If i had a 2g that's what i'd be putting on. (they're available @ SBR/Pina/others FWIW)

plus the piping route is a lot shorter than the same side layout of that other intercooler (though that could be fixed with endtanks. [shrug]

yeah, if I was looking for a killer Ic that would be it, the guys on POS LOVE that one.

I know stock loved the one he got on the eclipse.

I jsut don't want anything that will cause me to pull the fogs and that one does.

You know my car is just a DD family mover and more than likely will never have anything bigger than a t28 or MAYBE an evo3, and fogs help a LOT on illuminating Deer eyes when I am in MS.

It's a Spearco 2-221, actually a decent FMIC. Flows 1080CFM at 1.5psi drop and can support 760HP according to Turboneticsinc, the owner of Spearco. Size is about 18.5" wide, 6" high without the tanks and 3.5" thick. I use it on my 1G. Much better than the griffin of the same dimensions due to many more cooling tubes, count the difference on the RRE site. I have run a 50 trim, 60-1 and now a Holset with it. Call turbonetics and ask about it. There site was under construction last I looked. www.turboneticsinc.com Mark
FMIC alone sells for $590. at RRE. I use a dejon uooer pipe that cost $200. and dejon lower, forgot what I paid for that. Mark
PS: I called them and got chewed out. he said the DSM guys use the 216 because it fills the front opening but it's just not the size that affects the efficiency. I have my upper IC pipes wrapped in header wrap to help.

why did you get chewed out? OMG

I was thinking of the 24 inch griffin core since there is exactly 24.25 inches between fogs lights. I was wondering had anyone put one that large in between them.

In any case the Spearco would be cool enough for my needs, and I figured I'd just make my own pipes to replace the Greddy UIcP and LIcP I have so I could route them how I wanted. I just did not like the GAP.

I questioned the efficiency of the rather small 2-221 and he got kinda upset and asked if I was making more than 760HP. Of course I said half that at best. He then went into the engineering and testing that went into the product, etc. It is a bottom to top flow and 6" tubes seem short but I have seen guys run 10's with the same IC so I stayed with it. Be careful with the griffin core and check the RRE site for the cooling tube area which they list on a page linked to the IC page. I believe Spearco makes a 24"x6"x3.5" also. Mark

I checked it out. The griffin 24" has the same amount of cooling tube area of the Spearco 2-221(18.5") which has 25% more than the griffin 18.5" like the Spearco 18.5". Mark

so basically it's a wash
bigger core more aesthetically pleasing but ahrder to find endtanks for and no more effeicent than the smalelr Spearco...

Thanks a million. I think I know which way I want to go
I'm thinking bigger griffin, but I thinkI might want to get a styroblock and mock it up first to ensure it WILL fit as clearances will be very tight dusted lightly with a black paint to "not stand out".
thanks again. And sorry you got jumped on, that pretty much soured me on getting a Spearco (at least from Troublenetics).

No big deal about the guy at Turbonetics/Spearco. I've had a lot more rude treatment from my "fellow" members here at tuners!LOL I was considering an upgrade as I believe Spearco is #1. The guy thought I was someone who had called several times asking about the 2-221. I have a 1G and fitment of a 24" would have been tough as I did not want to hack the bumper as the car is quite pristine. A 24" Spearco, which I have heard can be gotten, would be nice and I like the vertical bars more than the horizontal, looks tougher IMHO. Spearco does make a larger top-bottom that flows 1500CFM! I can't read the specs on their new site(i use webTV) but it's there now. www.turboneticsinc.com

Good luck!, Mark
PS: If I didn't mention it I have used a 50 trim, 60-1 and now a Holset HX-35/40 with the 2-221 and a guy from DSMchips gives the IC the thumbs up.
