what does turbo trim level mean?
what are the trim levels for the 14b, big 16g and 20g?

what don't you understand. i want to know what does a turbo trim mean. for example if a turbo is a 50 trim. what is measured to tell if it's a 50 trim?
what do you measure to tell a turbo's trim level.

The measurements of the compressor wheel or turbine is where trim is comes from. The actual formula is inducer^2 / exducer^2 *100= Trim. Thats inducer squared devided by exducer squared multiplied by 100. I don't know how to do superscript :)

So when you say 50 trim, I will assume you mean TO4E 50 trim, a wheel measureing 2.12" at the inducer, and 3" at the exducer 2.12^2/3^2*100=49.937 rounded to 50 of course.

When talking trims, you have to be careful, there can be more than one wheel that is a 50 trim, one that measures 4" at the inducer, and 5.65" at the exducer will be a 50 trim. Usually though, the higher the trim number in a family of compressor wheels, the higher the flow capacity.

As for the mitsu wheels, you would have to look up the measurements and do the math to find the trim of each, the 14b or 16g is the mitsu nomenclature for the size and blade arrangement.

Hope this helps.

In short, without telling you to search... trim is the ratio between the diameter of the exducer and inducer fins on the compressor wheel. Trim tells us flow characteristics of a wheel, NOT size. In the DSM world, we mainly use 'trim' as a slang for NAME... a 50 trim can be a million different turbos, but a 50 trim from a DSM vendor is going to be the same compressor wheel. Note that a 56 trim is a MUCH larger turbo (wheel) than a 57 trim.

Hope this helps, if it interests you to what 'trim' MHI turbos are (14b, 16g) you can look it up as well. Doesn't mean anything, since the name of the turbo is all that's important to us.

EDIT>> beaten :(
