So I'm installing a 50 trim in my friend's 1991 Talon and i have all of the s/s lines to pull oil from the correct bolt on the oil filter housing. However, afer finding the recommended bolt (with the allen head) we did the unthinkable- yes, we rounded the head of this bolt by mistake. So, at this point we are trying to look into other options for what to do besides replacing the entire oil filter housing or trying to drill out the bolt (seems to be a little too dangerous to me). Here's what we've come up with:
-Pull the oil from the stock feed location on the head and use an inline oil filter like the Moroso ones that Summit sells. I know there are mixed opinions on this topic in regards to a turbo as large as a t3/t4, but it seems that a majority of the vendors and members here feel that this is the last place you should really pull the oil from. I understand that this oil will be unfiltered and may very well not provide enough pressure for this non-ball-bearing turbo. We figured that we may be able to pull this off since the oil will indeed be filtered now, but the question about pressure levels still raises too many concerns in my mind.
-Pull the oil from the other bolt on the oil filter housing (which will provide unfiltered oil as well). I raise this choice as my personal bet for the best remaining option. I figured that since we would be pulling oil from the housing area the pressure should hypothetically be better than that of the head. At the same time, knowing that this oil would be unfiltered, we would then utilize the same kind of inline oil filter to clean up this oil. This would seem to provide the clean oil that the recommended oil filter housing location would provide, at a very similar pressure level. True or false?
Please help us out and let us know what you think is our best option. Also, if you have any other ideas we're open to pretty much anything that won't compromise the life of the turbo at this point. This has turned into a nightmare just 1 wk before Mitsubishi Day in E-Town, NJ which was what we were aiming to have the car done for. Thank you for any kind of help at all that you can offer...
