ok so i was at my job (care center place) and i had my car on a lift and all so i was lucky for that and specially all my tools. anyway did my turbo and all and in the installation kit as everyone knows, i had the braided oil line that replace my whole oil line to the filter... ok so after the installation, i turn the car on and raise the car up to check if there is any leaks, well, yep got one from the oil line but by the filter of the new braided line. it was leaking by the housing where the brass male thingy goes in.. i read all the directions on installation and it wasn't because it was loose, cus that sucker is tight... then i put some teflon tape on it to see if it stops and still leaks, then i tried the teflon tape again but thicker layer and still leaked. then i tried again but with no teflon and still leaked... thats the only place it is leaking... i was thinking of getting some plumbers pipe sealant and using that after the oil is drained and its clean... for those that dont know what that is, it is like a rubber cement, that would basically cover all the cracks and misseals where the oil is going.. but i dont think ill be able to crack it loose after it dries.... im sure im not the only person with a leak there lots of people have evo 3's and someone must have the same prob...... i have done research and can't seem to find a answer... is there an adapter they sell to fix this? what should i do? thanks for the help...

p.s. if it was a little leak i would leave it but its a nice leak like if i drive an hour i would lose 1/2 of qt about...

Just tighten it more.

The only "sealant" you should use is blue threadlocker on the part that screws into the oil filter housing. Do not use any sealant on the fitting that connects the braided line to that fittintg. That should be a compression fitting. You really have to tighten those down.

it so freaking tight tho... any more and i feel like im going to crack the housing and i dont want that...

Just on the off-chance you didn't know, 'bumping' threads is highly frowned upon in these forums . . . just a friendly reminder.

As far as your leaking problem, forget the plumbers teflon tape- it sucks. Go to a hardware store and grab a tube of pipe thread sealant. The stuff I got came in a yellow tube and is used to seal the treads on just about any pipe (gas, oil, water, etc . . .) and it is a slow dry / soft set so if need be, you can still take the fitting off later.

Do that and it should cure the oil leak :thumb:

will do... i picked up the stuff already, its called tuff something... yellow jar from home depot in the plumbing section and it can withhold 10,000 psi... for oils, water etc... imma try it on monday since im off from work till then... by the way since its a new turbo... it needs to be babied for alittle right? to break it in? im sure i can't just pound on it already got that baby at 13 psi and still haven't tried yet

I personally have never had a NEW turbo installed, but I imagine I would would personally keep the boost turned down a bit to make sure everything is running properly (not running out of fuel, etc . . ) before turning it up. But as far as 'seasoning/breaking-in' the turbo . . . I do not believe there is a need like a new motor or clutch-type LSD. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.

I just installed my ported big 16G and used teflon tape "White plumbers tape" on all my threads. I "Always" use that stuff on anything and never have had any leaks. It seals it better and only takes a few seconds. Hope this helps!

agreed. doesn't matter how tight you have it, if it's leaking through the threads, it will leak unless you have teflon on those suckers. :thumb:

i used teflon and it didnt work... i have that thread sealant thats like a creame imma try that tomorrow... haven't pushed my turbo yet but ill let u guys know how it feels

Personally, I'd use blue loktite.

Are you sure it is leaking from the NPT threaded fitting, or is there another fitting attached to that one that is leaking?

My RRE line has 2 fittings at that end that have to be tightened. One that screws into the housing. Another that screws onto the fitting you just put in the housing, which is a compression fitting. Compression fittings have to be tightened a LOT!

Take a picture for us so we can help you out better.

ok so i finally had time at my job cus it was dead... i pulled the baby in and cleaned everything nice and then used high pressure thread sealant, it was a white cream i believe it was called tuff something... white jar from home depot... it supports up to 10,000 psi of pressure. now i have NO LEAK!!!!! :rocks: i had the car up on the left and the floor spotless... i ran the car at idle for 20 min and did other work... came back and looked on the ground and no leak!!!! :thumb: then i gave it gas and all and still no leak... now i can enjoy it! thanks guys!!!!!

then i have a mbc so i cranked it at 13psi.. with my stock fuel system... and let me say, this baby pulls to REDLINE! just like everyone says... just keeps pulling and pulling... hehe nice nice. thanks again..
