Hey guys, Im just trying to get your opinion on this little project I have going. I made an intercooler sprayer for my stock SMIC but i went about it a little bit different. I have a Regulator on the tank that turns the pressure coming out of the tank down to 100psi instead of what i was told 800psi. I did this so i can use normal 3/8" hosing because i wanted to put valves on the lines and if the pressure isnt turned down they would pop. Im getting a five pound tank and mounting it upside down then from the tank the hosing goes to a valve on the side of my seat and then to the intercooler that way i can turn the sprayer off and on without turning off the bottle. I wanted some input or advice on what you guys think. (BTW the tank is going to be mounted up side down so the liquid co2 comes out which is much colder)

You'll likely determine that you're wasting both the hardware and your effort. Dropping down to below-boosting engine load while still moving is going to pass acres more of cooling air both through and across the IC than what payoff you'll get from trying to freeze it.
What might be a better use of exertion would be to put a cabin readout on the IC temperature.
 
The weight of it all will cancel any thoughts of performance benifits. You're probably better off with spraying water.

This is like spraying a beer bottle with light amounts of co2 and assuming the beer to be cold. It's an interesting idea, but it's short of par. If it was a great idea, people would be doing it left and right.
 
When I turned the system on it shot the liquid co2 onto the intercooler which froze it. I dont see why it wouldnt help i havent used it whyle driving the car yet because i didnt get a 5 lb bottle yet.

That's a bad comparison. You're talking about a giant heatsink, which air spends fractions of a second in and is cooled hundreds of degrees.

This idea isn't going to help performance. What it will do is combat heatsoak, which is smic will do quite easily. It will restore lost performance when the IC gets too hot.

Spraying that beer can might not make the beer cold, but will it stop the aluminum from being hot? Yep.

The only thing I would be worried about is co2 getting sucked into the intake...that would hurt performance.
 
Im going make sure it doesnt get into the intake, atleast someone understands.

I think i'm going to have to agree with the majority in saying that you're probably wasting your money, although i hope for your sake it works. My question is this, how much are you paying for this setup? 100? 200? My point is that you obviously are somewhat mechanically inclined, as you were able to fabricate this. Why not save your money on this project and instead by a front mount from someone like johnny racecar with the money. You can then fabricate the pipes for it, and have a fmic setup which will flow more than your smic could ever dream of, and you wouldn't have to worry about heatsoak. Either way, good luck to you, and if it works great, more power to ya.

So instead of spending $80-100 on a DIY job, spend $800 on an fmic kit.

idont know why everyon4e doesnt think that ur kit will work. they do sell intercooler spray kits for 400 bucks. they been dyno tested and proven to give 10-15 hp to the ground! so yeah as long as ur just using it for drag racing itll work and be fine. if ur trying to use this as a daily driving thing then ur gonna fall short, real short of your expectations.
 
If liquid CO2 is -75 degrees why wouldnt it help? also why would the big companys make intercooler sprayers? BTW iv spent less than $100 on this set up but i got the regulator for free.
