I just put in an afc with my friend, and before adjusting the hi and low settings, i drove the car, and the logger was going crazy reading 43counts of knock in every gear past 2,000 rpms. The car felt really slow because of this, but when i was driving home, my logger stopped working, and my TT was reading .98-1.00 o2 volts and my A/F gauge was pegged at RICH. If i floored it, the car would nosedive and the rpm's would drop, and then it would wake back up and pull hard once spooled up and the TT read.92volts. i tried taking away 15%fuel from lo and hi, and the car did the same but at WOT the o2's were .88 so i let off. Now when installing the ecu, i forgot to disconect the NEG battery terminal until after i had already unplugged the ECU. The afc seems to be functioning properly. What do you think, please any input on previous or similar experience would be greatly appriciated!!!! Thanks.

Here are some things you might want to check up on...

check for boost leaks.

base timing - It should be at 5 deg btdc. Try going lower - my 1g likes 2 degrees for pump gas.

might need an fpr - Your stock one could be over-running.

try fooling with your High and Low TH settings.

You could have phantom knock. Try a couple cans of MCCC to clean up the combustion chamber and ATF to clean up the lifters.

What plugs/gap are you running? try 1 degree colder than stock.

How much are you boosting? Is your maf hacked?

16psi, mas is hacked, all of your suggestions make sense, except those variables were all normal before the install of the AFC. My friend thinks the black and brown ground wires may be backwards. I'll have to pull the ecu back out and check it on a day that it's not snowing here in MD. my cars doors are frooze shut since it rained and snowed and now the rain frooze on the car. Thanks for the advise i'll update you.

I checked all of the conections on the AFC and the wrong wires on the afc harness were wired into my cars' airflow wire. But now that the car is running and the AFC is zeroed out, on the display mode with
Airflow %
RPM %
TPS %
Correction % i get readings for RPM= 750, TPS=when ever i give it throttle, Correction=0% because the afc is zeroed, but for Airflow i get 0% even when i give it throttle. Now on the afc the airflow reads0%, buton my pocketlogger i logged a run and it read 1606 at WOT. Concidering my pocketlogger is reading the Airflow HZ measurement, the airflow wire on the afc must be hooked up right now right? I should see airflow on the afc screen right? THanks guys so much. I thought tunning would be the hard part, but so far getting the car set up has been worse.

Not to disrespect anyone, especially JDMAWD, he has been doing this for alot longer than me, but when I was way too rich(25%) I had tons of knock. Adding fuel did not help, but taking it away did.

I ran a few high 13's and then added 625cc injectors and had 0 time to tune them(went to the track right after work) and ran a 15.3!! :barf:

Took out all that fuel with the SAFC and ran a mid 13.

My O2 volts were .98 and my plugs were black!! And I had tons of knock and really low timing, plus some backfires and jerky accell.

What are your monitor settings meaning what are the 1 2 3 4 for what you want to monitor. One should be KAR if you want to watch the MAF signal.

Pointer you were right, i actualy figured that out a couple days ago. Once i set one of my 4 settings for monitor to Karman, i can now read my air flow. It peaked at about 1900hz on a WOT 7k rpm log. Is that ok? Thanks guys you have all been a great help on getting me started with my Safc. THanks again.

one thing I've found that gives low RPM partial throttle knock is lugging the engine. Don't expect a 121cube engine to pull a 3100+ lb car up a slight hill from 2000rpm in 3rd gear :)

The same thing happens to me. If I get on the throttle under 3k rpm's, it knocks. As long as I wait until more than 3k, it pulls like a bastard 14b should, every time.

It's annoying, but until I find the problem I'm just going to deal with it.

I got a lot of part throttle knock when I hacked my MAF, but raising the low TH setting got rid of it.

yea me too!! I used to have my lo set to 30% and my hi set to 60%.

Now I have my lo set to 70% and my hi set to 75% and its WAY better.

Plus I get another 100km per tank. It was really crappy there for a while....
