Hey whats up All, Just had a newbee question, because now i am confused. I tought if you ran youre car leaner it would run faster but burn youre internal engine components.
Well my car was running like crap on the top end, I stomped on the gas and noticed my Air Fuel meter was staying in the orange, (middle). I pulled over checked my fuel gage it was set at 41psi, then I changed it to 46, and WOW big difference, ALOT better. then I noticed 3rd and 4th gear the air fuel meter would bounce around in green, so i set it at 50psi at the fuel gage with the vacume line disconected and OMG another HUGE difference, now every gear my gage reads last line green.
Was I starving my engine? Can someone please explain this. I tought if you ran richer the car would run slower but safer???

any toughts, :thumb:
Thanks
Miguel

Yeah, you were probably knocking horribly and the engine was pulling timing down to hell. You had no power and were destroying the engine. Now you are a lot safer and can actually make some power, but you don't know enough about what is going on to make any decisions on whether it is good enough or not. That blinkety-blink light is really just a light show. It does no good for tuning except for being a warning when something is severly wrong. Keep it up there at the top green until you have something else to go by: pocketlogger, egt, tmo logger, dsmlink, etc.

Thanks Bro, I had the tought of timing being pulled because of knock run threw my mind, after reading about it on other threads. but I didnt put them together. Thanks for the reasurance, it makes sense again. Cant wait to get my AFC, 660, and egt.:( .

Gee Weez, My GOSH.....

Damn My BAD, maybee I should have inlcuded somewhere on this thread that it was a newbee question!!! But thanks for the ohh sooo informative advice. I would have never guessed it was a rookie question....

I got a small 16g with a ported exh man, ported o2 housing, rsr long downpipe (no cat), rsr cat back 70mm, b&m fuel pressure reg. and gage, greddy front mount with hard pipping, upper intercooler pipe to throttle body with greddy bov, greedy dual stage boost controler, tt, air fuel gage(blinky lights) and boost gage

I know im in badly need of fuel injectors and an AFC, and EGT Gage. Did you have any other ideas?

You dont have a logger? Get DSMLink or a logger before doing anything else.

No actually i dont. I figured since i didnt have much to tune with it wouldnt be all that helpfull. but i guess im wrong.

That too :)

And keep the boost down until you get em.

I have it set at 15 psi, and it runs really great. When I set the boost controler off its set at the factory 10psi and the top end is pretty bad, it takes for ever to climb rpms. im guessing thats when im runing really rich.
