This is totally wrong, but what are we to do?

For those of you who are going to do it, just save your flames. I'm not in the mood for it.

Now let me start off by saying That I have all the respect in the world for Todd and what he hs done for the DSM community. After over five years on the digest, and buying his wonder work with ECU's and data logging. But I think Todd was on NASA latest trip to Mars. There is no way to get ahold of him, and I need the data logging software again. A few years ago when I started seeing his chips on e-bay, I e-mail him and told what was going on, and he was in the process of having them shut down. I went as far as to e-mail all the winners of the auctions and tell them the story and alot of the desided not to buy them. But it looks like now he has just given up on the DSM tuners.

While I don't agree with others making money off Todd's ideas, and hard work, but I think I'm to the point were I'm starting to think maybe this should be free ware, with donations made to Todd. (It's not like this would be the first time for some of use to make donations to him......BMW). So if anyone has the TMO datalogging software that would not mind e-mailing me to replace my lost copy, I would reallt appreciate it .

I don't see anything to flame there (well, other than asking for software). Very sadly, Todd seems to have burned all the way out on DSMs -which is a small surprise, with all he'd done. Look at all the guys here whose candles have stubbed down- and I agree that at least he should license the software out to someone who will keep supporting it, if not go shareware with it.

I tried to paypal him some money with a message attached a while back. I needed to get a DNS entry changed for utah.dsm.org which he manages. He never claimed it, and I never heard from him, paypal finally bounced it back.

I would guess donations wouldn't ever reach him.

over 2 years ago, when I first got my DSM, I ordered a chip from Todd. He was incredibly flaky, hard to get a hold of, and it hasn't improved. He pulled the old "I swear I shipped it out. Tracking number? Uh, how about I just ship another one out." crap that shows bad business sense. When I went to sell my TMO chip, I tried to contact him for a few things regarding it, and he was impossible to get in contact with at that point, and his business partner wouldnt answer my questions, saying he had no proof I had a genuine chip, and would not look up my purchase info to see.

I am not at all supporting product theft, but Todd is a shitty businessman. Burning out on something is one thing, but failing to stand behind products that he is making very good money off of is just plain crappy. I say go for it, copy what you will. Sorry I don't have the sofware though.

Yeah, I hear what your saying. I don't plan on just throwing his software around either. I have already bought it years ago, but lost it. Someone was nice enough to send it to me, but I guess my password was with my software. I tried last week to send Todd an e-mail, but it got bounced back to me (so I'm still screwed). Really as much as I or any buddy else knows, Todd might have pass away, be in jail serving a life sentence, or who knows what. The fact is he sold products, and does nothing to support them. I don't want this to turn into a hate on Todd thread, he has done so much all ready, I don't really think he owes us much. TMO was just something he did on the side to give back to the community (and make a little money for himself). I just passing around an Idea. Hell if he would answer an e-mail, I would even offer to buy the rights to his software, but there seems to be no way to get ahold of him. I just know that I have trown a lot of my freinds his way (when they decide to buy a real car), and it sucks when they can't get the supportive part that was available to me when I first got my car. And it just kidda sucks
