I have been hesitant to try RRE's AFC settings for a 1g with a 16g based on the fact that I am still running 450 injectors. I was just wondering (I know every car is different) which way I should compensate for still having the stock injectors. Sorry for the newbish question, and thanks for any and all responses:cool:
 
Why do you need to compensate? If it's that they are too small for your application then there is no way to compensate... get bigger ones.
 
You will max out your injectors. Before, your injectors were not the weakest link in your system. Now they are. That is the price you pay when you upgrade other stuff.

This is what tuning is all about. Take what you have and make the best out of it. Watch the EGT's and log for knock and tune it the best you can. You will hit a wall where you can't go any farther but that is the injectors holding you back.
 
Take a easy on boost until you have a bigger fuel system.
Cheap to get 55occ, afc and fuel pump than a new motor.

I hit fuel cut the other day on 16psi on my car tuning my manuel boost controller.
 
Thanks for the replies.....I do have a whinebro waiting to go in, but injectors will have to wait a few paychecks....might just leave the AFC zeroed out for a while and enjoy my pretty blue toy....later:cool:
 
In my experince you'll max the stock pump before the injectors. The pump can probably supply the stock injectors to maybe 80% duty cycle if you run 20psi of boost (the more boost you run the higher the fuel pressure will be). Of course on a 16G, that much air is going to have the injectors running well into the 95% duty cycle range. So you will have a fuel pressure drop and be getting less fuel than the ECU thinks you are. So not only will you be getting less fuel than you need but also sh1ty timing due to running such a high airflow.

The solution(s) to this is to 1) hack your MAS (to lower observed airflow), 2) put the pump in (to keep pressure where it should by supplying enough volume), 3) and get larger injectors (to compensate for the hacked MAS and increased fuel demands), 4) get an AFC (to make sure airflow is right for the level of MAS hack and the injector size because there is no way to hack a MAS perfectly to match any injectors).
 
2G pumps are better than 1G pumps, they'll hold out until just around 95% duty cycle from what I have seen. I know a 2G guy, Big28, DSMLink, etc, he has classic, typical overran fuel pump right at 96% duty cycle. Of course with that kind of duty cycle he needs new injectors too.
 
Damn good answers to my question. So here is another one, based on the mods in my profile, and thinking a little bit conservatively (no EGT in yet, logger on the way) how should I adjust the RRE settings to squeeze a little more out of the Laser? It just seems like I run waaay rich at WOT (read: last green bar on blinky AF guage) and would like a little more power (who doesn't). Anyone?:confused:
