I have seen tons of threads about what SAFC setting is good for this set up and what SAFC settings are good for this ETC. I myself just got a SAFC and have to send out my greatest thanks to AUSTIN (candela) for walking me through the basics. I think us (newbs) need a how to thread about the SAFC! What this does and what that does. When to add fuel and when to subtract fuel etc. I did a search about using a SAFC and came up with nothing. So if the PROS don’t mind helping the SAFC newbs? It would make SAFC tuning life so much easier. Thanks so much in advance!

Well then, you didn't search correctly or something.

The SAFC changes the Hz signal by intercepting it after the MAS on its way to the ECU. By modifying this signal, the SAFC changes the amount of air that the ECU sees, and thus changes the values it comes up with after it looks to the fuel and timing tables.

There is so much information about the SAFC, that you can't just say "tell me about it." If you ask some more specific questions, then we can probably answer them

The safc operation is very simple but there are a few things you must do prior to any kind of tuning. You must make sure the car is in good running condition. Change plugs wires, set base timing compression test leak test if you can.

Next you want to have a datalogger PERIOD. The data logger will tell you what where and how much correction is needed. Setting throttle points well vary depending on driving style. Im a very part throttle type of person. So my throttle points may be different from yours. Turbo size and spool chairicteristics will also determine at which percentage your LO table ends and HI table begins. But that's not super critical for WOT tuning.3K and up is where most of your tuning will be done.

With your focus on the HI table, start with boost relatively low. 15-17 psi is a good safe level that will leave some room for error. log 02 voltage timing advance and rpm when making your first couple WOT 3rd gear pulls. Ultimately you want to remove fuel until you get a little knock or timing gets pulled (if you have a 2G). injector size will determine starting correction value in the -% range. 550's -15-18, 650 -18-22% give or take a percentage or two, will get you in the right ball park.

Depending on what gauges you have in the car, just keep an eye on 02 and EGT. these gauges are more of a warning tool then a tuning method. Obviously you don't want your o2 gauge to bury itself in the red as soon as boost hits nor do you want EGT's to sky rocket past 1600 very quickly either. No matter how inaccurate these gauges are they will tell you when something is very wrong and keep you from melting/blowing shit up.

One thing to keep in mind is depending on how quickly your turbo spools and how much air it moves once it spools. You may find your correction value very disproportionate when the turbo spools.

02 timing knock and rpm data from your logger will tell you where to make corrections on the safc

Knock+ high 02 value often means you are knocking from being rich.knock+low o2 value often means you're knocking from being lean. Use knock sum and o2 voltage to determine the cause of knock and lean richen accordingly in that rpm range. Good luck its actually pretty simple, if you have a good running car with proper supporting mods for the given turbo you may currently have.Remember low boost tune slowly and let the car cool between runs from potential heat soak:thumb:

twitch, i never knew you were an AFC newb :D my worship level of you just went down 5 points.

haha j/k

if the "newbs" have any questions just drop them here and im sure we can help.

heres how i learned how to use the AFC and this is probably the best way hands down. a friend got his first and learned it before me so when i got mine setup he showed me the ropes and got me going in the right direction. its a lot easier to learn in person or even just on the cell with them while your driving.

watching socalieclipse move through the AFC i got the hang of it better than reading a million threads on tuners. one of us could probably make a really useful video for the subject. *pokes socali*

yeah yeah yeah
hehe

Sidoze and I are going to try to video it tonight, I will edit it tomorrow and we will try to get it up and post the link before sunday (As I leave on vacation for a week).

Either Sidoze, myself, or many others can be PMed about it too. I will admit, I am not a GURU and neither is Sidoze, but we got it pretty well figured out and we are more than willing to help whoever may need it. However, JDMAWD gave a very good post too :)

This is a very goo dinitiative since I am prety much alone here in Sweden (amongst my friends anyway) that uses a SAFC at all and I have no one to ask or no one to show me so..any info given on here will be appreciated.Have tons of Q:s for you guys alter on for sure *LOL* Keep up !

The video is done being filmed but I havent edited it yet. I am leaving in like 10 minutes for Mexico for the week, so I will edit it when I get back next Saturday. :)

It will hopefully be enough to help you understand the AFC much better :D
