SafcII knock sensor 2g???

I've been told that the s-afcII isn't capable or reading knock on a 2g car. So when you guys install it what do you do with the knock sensor wire then? Just let it hang?

Yup as in don't bother with that wire. Just make sure you insulate it.

I just bought an SAFC 2 for my 98 GSX and haven't run it yet, but
I don't know why the knock sensor will not communicate with the SAFC 2. The instructions are in Japanese, but the knock sensor wire (on the
car) is a white wire connected to terminal #78, which is the 4th wire
down, on the left side of the middle plug (#53) on the ECU. Since this
sensor sends an electric signal when knock is detected, it should "talk"
to the SAFC 2. I'll know for sure as soon as I run it.
 
just hooked mine up today, with knock sensor....didnt "talk" just read 0

Thanks for the information re: the knock sensor not "talking" to
the SAFC2. I have a TMO ECU in place of the factory unit and there
are some functions in it that are not in the stock unit. Many of these
functions relate to measuring timing, boost, etc.. I will speak with
the gentlemen at TMO about retrieving the knock info from the ECU.
Perhaps all that is needed is a "translator" for the two pieces to
communicate. However, my car will not be finished until next summer,
since I am rebuilding the entire car from one end to the other, and
top to bottom, so I will not be able to give you actual driving experience
until then. But, if TMO has some constuctive info I'll post it. Thanks for
your input about the OBDII not using raw knock. It saved me some
time and frustration.
 
Will the knock box work with the 2G eclipse seems like they only mention the 1G's. Also this replaces the SAFC2's knock sensor correct, it doesn't aid it does it?
 
its just for 97 and up cars right, i have an afc2 and on my 95 my knock sensor seems to work fine, or did i just tap the wrong wire, man thatd be embarassing, just wondering though
 
just relized something yesterday. The TMO ECU I have uses a 95 w/ EPROM which I believe is OBD-I. So I shouldn't have any problems. That would make sense since Laguna has a 95 as well and he is getting a knock reading. So hopefully problem solved. My question is why would Apexi put the latest fuel control technology out and make it non compatable with the OBD-II seems kinda stupid to me.
 
1995 Eclipse Turbo ECU's are OBDII. The 95' ECU is magic (dsmlink, dsmchips etc) because Mitsu was working for 96' requirement of OBDII. The 1995 ECU is the only year it came with an EEPROM. But it meets the OBDII requirements. You cannot read the knock sensor. It is only a specifc microphone. Same as 96-99. Only the ECU can filter the engine sounds and read knock. The AFC-II works with other types of knock sensors. Hope that helps. It actually isn't linked to OBDII, but rather the knock sensor type. Mitsu just has an incompatible knock sensor vs. Apexi AFC-II design.
