Hey guys,
I was wondering if any of you guys have heat coated any of your parts to keep temps down under the hood or to keep heat from getting to your intercooler pipes? Is ceramic coating the same thing? Are there more than one type of heat coatings. I was thinking about buying an aluminized manderel downpipe and cat-back exhaust and having it heat coated and then not have to worry about rust. Does that make sense, and do you think that would work? What are some companies that offer heat coating? Off the top of my head I think there's a company called Swain (?) but I'm not sure. I'd love to get your inputs on whether you think its worth it, which parts would be most important, and etc. Thanks. Later.

swain and hpl make coatings that have shown around a 30 degree drop.

they also make coatings for the internals in your engine which help its life and make hp due to cooler temps.

hey jltcat,
Is ceramic coating the same or similar to what swain and hpl use? What parts would be a good idea to heat coat besides exhaust? Do you think that having a coating on the exhaust would prevent rust? Do you have any idea on how much it would cost to coat an exhaust system? I'm talking mani, turbine housing, o2 housing, downpipe, testpipe, and cat-back.

Swain has pricing on their website. They seem to be highly recommended. Next time I do that, I will probably try them, as they use a much thicker ceramic coating than do JetHot and many other companies. I used a company called Caps Brite Hot Coatings. The end results were good, it cut temps down a little, no hard numbers to give you though. Just like with JetHot, you have to ask for the 2000 degree coating or they won't put that on there, they arent expecting the high exhaust temps we see.

I had the exhaust manifold, turbine housing, O2 housing, downpipe, and test pipe done, for like $330 total. Pics of the stuff can be seen at:

This is the place I used, they are good overall, although the coating is fairly thin.

hpc gets good feedback. i'm going through airborn simply because i can take a 2 hour drive there instead of shipping everything. i'm getting intercooler pipes, intake, e manifold, turbine housing, o2 housing, and rear section of the exhaust done. everything is getting coated inside and outside.
