plug gaps

I am finding that I need to reduce the plug gap down to .022" to get my engine to pull strong at WOT. I have new wires, plugs[ NGK 7's] an MSD and have checked out the coils and transistor values. This doesn't sound typical and I can't understand why .
Any thoughts?
