Can a datalogger be transfered

I am looking to buy a car, and the guy has a datalogger that I would like to have. He said that he called the company and they said the software and the cable cant be resold. Is this totally correct? If so is there a was to get it from him and use it anyway?

Datalogger as in the palm or laptop kind?

Either way, if you buy all the parts from him, I don't see it being a problem (except for that you wouldn't have any sort of tech support from the company)

I know that you can transfer the pocket logger liscense for $25 though.

I just found that out too, that you can transfer it for $25. Well that answers my question
