Tuning With OLD Style SAFC

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Step 1: Put in car
Step 2: Make a pull and datalog
Step 3: Adjust Airflow signal

It's no different than using a new style SAFC, except that all changes are global, rather than only applying to a certain range of throttle positions.

Depending on how old that AFC is, it might be able to adjust based on RPM (such as mine, the S-AFC with 5 knobs). I personally really like the older style S-AFC due to its simplicty and being able to tune on the go w/o taking your eyes off the road.

Hey guys. I wired my 5-knob up a few weekends ago and it had some "interesting" results, none of them good. I wired it off a post from a guy on this site, but I cannot find the link right now. I assume the wiring for the newer SAFC on VFAQ does not apply to the old style. When wiring, are the pin numbers on the ECU plugs identified looking into the plug after you unplug them, or from the BACK side where the wires go into the plugs. The car ran fair, but I got a check engine light, the fuel pump kept running for about 10 seconds after I shut the car off, and it had a mean hesitation off idle. As soon as I unhooked the SAFC yesterday and resoldered the one wire that I had to cut back together, the problems went away and the car ran fine. Need help, I am trying to put in my 550's and 2G MAS. Thanks guys. Jrod
