Cant get rid of boost creep on a 14B

I put a 14B on my 2g, along with a 1g head and intake...

even set at "stock boost" (hose ran straight from actuator to bov line)

in 2nd it shoots up to 10 psi.. stays there a short bit but at higher RPMs it climbs quickly to 15, then in 3rd it starts at 15 and the starts creeping up.. slower.. till i hit 18 or so and fuel cut kicks in..

i give up, this is a 14b for gods sake! its not supposed to get boost creep..

my mods are:

Ported exhaust manifold (step ground away)
Ported exhaust housing on turbo (step ground away and guts hogged out a little)
ported 02 housing (wategate hole not ported) (step ground away)

1g head, Djoin tool FMIC, greddy hard pipes, RRE kit to install turbo, hallman MBC (bypassed at this point)
3" full exhaust (no cat)

what am i missing?

my only other ideas are

A: the actuator is BAD, and needs to be replaced..

B: i could bend the arm so its longer and thus opes the wastegate more..



ill probably try B first since it costs nothing... dunno though, im really at a loss...
 
crap, where can i get the bigger flapper from? i can do the porting myself no prob, how do you put the new flapper on anyway?
 
it just pisses me off that i have to yank everything out again now, new oil, new coolant.. all that crap, now it has to come back out.. goddammit, never imagined boost creep with a damn 14b, guess i underestimated it.
 
You mentioned that you bypassed your MBC, do you mean hooking it up to the stock BCS or what?

Are you 100% sure that your MBC is working and hooked up correctly?

It sounds like when the hose to my wastegate actuator fell off - the wastegate is just never getting the signal to start venting.

BTW: 34mm wastegate flapper mod is available from TRE (www.teamrip.com)
 
It would be easier to install some fuel mods and live with 18 psi on the street.
 
This is the third boost creep thread I have replied to today.

It is probably NOT easier to buy a bunch of fue mods, and it is certainly not cheaper.

To solve boost creep on a 14b:

Pull off the turbine housing and the O2 housing. When you look at the turbine housing, you will see that there are two holes, one for the wastegate and one for the turbine wheel. You will have to increase the area of the wastegate passage. What you need to do is open up the area between the wastge passage and the turbine passage, and then you have to port-match the O2 housing the same way. You can also open up the wastegate entry area inside the top of the turbine housing.

If that does not do it (it should) then you can get a 34mm flapper door, and open the hole up for that. But you shouldn't have to.

There is a good turbo porting VFAQ that has pictures of exactly where to port the turbne housing.
 
I yanked the exhaust and 02 housings and hogged everything out really good, fixed it...
