is there a such things as lettering ur turbo timer run too long? and if so what are the possible consiquences? and what would be an optimum setting for my turbo timer?

oh yeah i have a HKS type 1 if it means anythign to anyone.

i have a greddy tt..and the way i have it set is..the minimum at 1:30..but if my rpm's raise above 2k it adds on time...so in the end..it depends on how long/hard i drive my car..and it adjusts the tt that way..hope this helps..

Before I had a TT, I let my car usually cool down to around 540C. I have the HKS type 1 now and it usually ends up counting down about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes in regular driving. If you have been doing alot of boosting, it might be a good idea to let it gof or min of 2 min in my opinion

I have an apexi TT and set it on auto mode, dependign on how long/hard i drive. The shortest setting is 10 sec and the max is up to 6 min. but it usually turns off after 45 sec - 1:30 after normal driving. and about 3 - 6 min after boosting.

With a water cooled turbo you really only need a minute and a half. If your car is really hot you should just cruise around off boost, gets more air through the radiator.

Mine is set for 2:30 no mater what unless I runn the quarter mile then I set it to 5 or so mins.. I think that 2:30 is too long and will be reducing to 2:00 soon.. The only reason you TT is to alow you RPM to drop and oil pressure to slow down and flow past the turbo cooling them down and dropping remaining oil into the pan. So you don't get crustys on your turbo

oh my god I cant believe how long some of you let your car idle for!

Ok I'm gonna get really flammed for this because most DSMers have their way and never want to listen to anything else but who gives a damn here it is:

Letting your car idle for 3,4,5+ minutes is WORSE for your turbo then shutting it off right after driving hard. The reason is, after that much time, your oil pressure gets SO LOW and actually starves the turbo for oil. If you've ever taken an oil pressure test in your head, its less then 10psi at idle. That is REALLY LOW and subjecting a turbo to that low of pressure will actually shorten the life of it. Not to mention our turbos are WATER COOLED. Having water flow through a turbo will cool it a lot more then just running oil. The MOST you EVER need to let your car idle for is a minute and a half.

The best, HANDS DOWN way to cool your turbo off is to take it easy for the last 5 minutes or so of your drive, then let the car cool for 30 seconds for normal driving, a minute for spirited driving, and a minute and a half if you're really beating on the thing.

Flame all you want, but the best turbo minds in the world (not me, I just follow them) agree, letting your car idle for that long is horrible.

I agree you don't drive WOT into you driveway normally it's 25-30 down a residetial street for a few minuted which is plenty of time for the turbo to cool down I don't ever use my TT anymore. It just looks pretty. :D

Later,

I idle it down long enough to get the oil temp back down to 100 where it will stay when idling... That means about 30 seconds after driving around town (105 oil temp), 1:30 after getting right off the e-way (usually 110 temp). As much as 2:30 after coming right off the race track (120-130 max, but there, usually I have to keep it running for other reasons, such as parking/moving it out of the way, etc.)...
