How important is measureing EGT???

Ok, I'm looking at getting dsmlink to tune my fuel system. I know that dsmlink will measure knock. So my question is whether or not I need an EGT guage when tuning? Since the egt is used to determine air/fuel to prevent knock, I don't see why I would need one when I can just log knock with the dsmlink.

EGT gauge is more like a "back up gauge" to me, if your getting the DSMlink then you should beable to just tune with that, although it would be nice to see the changes in EGT's vs knock and timing, every car is different with EGT's.

EGT is also valuable for determining how much heat you're exposing your engine too. There's normally alot of debate as far as EGT Vs. A/F ratio meter. I don't know enough about tuning either but I do know too high of EGT's will melt your head, pistons, burn valves and a few other not so nice things.
