Pound for pound, does the 3 inch GM Maf flow more air?

Its a 2g Maf. It seems the Gm Maf is larger so I'm thinking the airflow would be higher if its mounted in the stock position. Other then thblow thru mode is there any other reason to use the GM maf?

The Mitsu maf is limited to a certain airflow. That is why a lot of guys upgrade to the GM Maf. If your putting it in blow thru just to hear your BOV you're probably doing it for the wrong reasons and not going to gain anything.

Sounds like you are thinking the 2G MAF might be a restriction. No it's not. At a dyno day last year I took my whole intake pipe, MAF, and air filter off and only gained 4hp (I was running speed density).

Yes, but what was your airflow? How many Hz? Before SD was readily available, the GM Maf was a good option for high airflow guys.

As is the 3G or EVO MAF unless your running seriously big HP numbers where running SD is preferred anyway.

The hp on my dyno chart can pretty much tell you what my airflow is. My log the other day was 25xx Hz or something.

It's not that the MAF is a restriction, it's that it gets maxed out; I think it's been said to go to around 54lbs/min or something.

The Evo 8 MAF has been used to around 700hp, and is physically smaller, so I can't imagine the 2G one being much of a restriction at 500hp.

4hp gained on a dyno taking the entire intake off? That sounds like good results IMO. I wouldnt have even guessed 2hp on the dyno taking the intake off.

Also jrohner where are some links to a 700hp car on an evo maf. I have never seen this.

It's not like I put the pipe back on and verified the difference. Each pull will vary more than 4hp. My AFR's were exactly the same, so it obviously didn't change the VE, so it probably made no actual difference in hp.

IDK I've seen it on EvolutionM before. SD is all the hype now for some reason, so everyone's doing that instead to be cool.

Well I have a holset with a 4in intake pipe. Thats why I run a gm maf. It would look stupid if I ran a 4in reducer down to 2.5in with the maf before the turbo. Its also safer. I have heard of guys having there pre maf come disconnected and run a seriously lean condition and blow up there engine. Its just easier especially with DSMlink

stock mas limit finally found? - evolutionm.net

There is another thread, but can't find it. 703 AWHP on stock Evo MAF.
Around 660 HP is considered the normal limit.
This limit is because of the Karmen sensors Hz limit, not because of the MAF's physical size.

The Evo Honey Combs have a tendency to get sucked into the turbo at high airflow if they are not glued. 700 HP puts around 1000 cfm of air through the Honey Combs.

The 2G MAF is 4". I run a Holset with a 4" intake and 2G MAF.

I always thought 600whp was around the limit, but it all depends on the dyno. Thats some awesome power on a stock evo maf. When I build my new setup I think im going back to draw thru with an evo maf instead of SD like I planned. So much easier to tune and the car likes to run the way its suppose to.

There's also a 3.75" GM Maf as well. A guy on link just posted over there that he had made over 700 horsepower on a 3" GM Maf, descreened. That's what I'm going with.....for a good while.
