So recently I did a 16g install and within a week, the turbo blew. Ever since then, the car has ran like crap. About 2-3 weeks after it blew (which was Wednesday night), I put my old turbo (14b) back in and since then, it's been lacking SERIOUS power. The car struggles to go past 40 mph, it runs ridiculously rich (at a red light, it never goes above 13.0) it can't boost more than 8lbs (was boosting 15-16 before), it's EATING gas, and it can barely make it up hills, of any steepness.

Now earlier today, I took my car to a fellow DSMer's garage and he tried to tune my car through SAFC. No matter what he did, NOTHING worked. Nothing leaned out my car and at this point, I'm truly stumped. So help would be appreicated. We tried switching the mass air flow sensor out and that didn't work. So any ideas/help would be appreciated.

Current setup: 14b turbo, aem wideband, safc2, 255 wally, cai, stock injectors, no afpr, mbc

do a boost leak test as well as verify there are no pre turbo exhaust leaks for starters

Then make sure the airflow signal is right on the afc set to karmen htz and the wire is connected back to the ecu and not broken or bad connection. If the injectors are stock then undo the maf interupt from the afc and see if that helps to diagnose a bad afc.

i know there is a small boost leak near the throttle body. however, it was never a factor. obviously, I lost a small amount of power, run a bit richer, and lose alot of mpg, but nothing this bad.
it.

it is set to karman. i am starting to wonder about the install of the safc...

Run a boost leak test, maybe when the turbo blew something got lose. Also re-check the wires of the AFC, here is a link to a installation guide which is very helpful.

thanks for the guide. i'll check the install when i have free time. however, i don't think it's the boost leak. i've always had a leak i just ignored and it never affected the car's performance dramatically like its acting. right now, i'm getting like 5 mpg and it takes me about 1/4 mile just to get up to 50. i'm dumping WAY too much fuel into my engine.

is it possible i fried my ecu? i had a bad battery that i constantly jumped... maybe i killed it that way?

If the ECU was fried you would be having more problems than you are now, maybe you sprung another leak or the one you had became bigger. If that isn't the problem then the SAFC was installed incorrectly and is throwing you ECU all out of whack. Also check the tuning that you have with an SAFC, make sure its not telling the car to dump shit tons of fuel at lower RPMs (I would recommend resetting everything back to 0), when you tune mostly leave it at 0 until 3k-3500rpm, then start adding fuel from there depending on how lean you're going as you boost. Some of my buddies add fuel in 2% increments after 3500, but every tune varies depending on conditions and the driver. Also make sure that your High/low throttle are set back to 0 just to see if that is whats wrong.

everything IS zero'd out. i'm still runnin 12 or less.

Check the MAF, might be messing up if you're not getting the correct signal which can sometimes happen if the SAFC is not installed correctly. Did you cut the blue wire with the yellow stripe then connected the SAFC wires? Or did you (or whoever installed it) splice the wires together without cutting it apart? Cutting it apart makes it have to relay through the SAFC to get the signal of how much air/fuel is going in, if its all still connected its going to get 2 different signals that will cause a huge problem.

I'll probably have to rewire it myself...oh joy

Its an easy fix, just take it step by step to rewire it. Takes about 2 hours to complete, just make sure everything is wired together nice and tightly.

If you can't wire a safc sell your dsm. Much easier than swapping turbos. How did it run before the 16g blew?

+1 for chaos in my defense:thumb:

for the record, i've had this car for 4 months and as much as i love my car, there are alot more important things going on around me: funerals, my mother's health, places for me to live, my general happiness in life, etc. and for the record, that's like saying "if i can't rebuild an engine, sell your car". we all have our 'professional parts' with cars. i happen to be good with just stereo equipment installation and stuff along those lines, not rewiring my ecu. 2 different levels of difficulty. and this is also the first car i got into AND also my only car. please know your facts before you tell me what i should do (whether you were being a smart ass or being deadly serious)...or actually, be willing to help before you go to criticize.

but i guess i will just do it myself. save myself the money and the headache. my big question is how the hell (or why) is my car dumping so much gas into the engine?

and as for how it ran before the install, here's my last thread and it explains EVERYTHING: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/maintenance-repairs/367932-did-i-blow-my-turbo-worse.html
