So I ran my car tonight at a local 1/8th mile track. My best time was a 9.1 @ 77 mph @ 12psi (slippin the clutch like crazy to launch). Which equates to around a mid to high 13. (Not bad for 14b, stock fuel, and a stage 2 dsmchip) I have my factory boost guage as my knock sum guage; in third gear at about 5500rpm i'm getting 2-6 counts of knock, which is pulling a degree or two of timing. I have two questions-

How bad is 1 to 2 degrees of retarded timing hurting me?

What could be causing this? (I have a SAFC, I tried adding as much as +3 from 5k on and still no difference.

EDIT: Hmm... I was just thinking, I do have a few small boost leaks (mostly from TB shaft seals), I wonder if the that was "rich knock". I may try taking away 1 or 2 with the afc and see what happens..

do u have fmic? or any other upgrades? i only have minor bolt ons and i did 8.4 @ 88mph 16g awd, at my first time at the track, i was nervous as hell too LOL, good times .... good times

which track do you go to? I have 2 friends that live and run in c-ville. both run low 7's.

ok so considering your mods it sounds bad cause your knock should be 0. Now if you had more mods then you can cause knock by adding to much feul or not enough but in your situation your knock is a falty part

clarksville speedway, there is a white 1g, a smoke color 1g and another white 1g but with white top, all these have been runing low 7's

my buddy at work and i are the only 2g's that show up, atleast every time i go though.:aha::aha:

Hey born2tune, I do have a fmic. I was thinking last night that it was possible it was rich knock... sure enough, it was. I turned the afc to -1 at high rpms and the knock went away. So obviously I need to do another BLT. I wanted to ask you, on the 8.4 run did you launch it? If you did, what rpm did you launch at?

Hopefully after I pick up my AFPR and cometic headgasket and drop my 2g off at Thomas' in Clarksville you'll see another 2g out there.

I want to go to the Woodburn dragstrip here in Oregon but I have no idea what to do at the strip I've never been to one.

I've been wondering the cost and what I need to do to run.

^^^It's a blast! All you need is some gas and money. The first couple of times you run it you might want to start launching around 3 to 4k and slip the clutch kind of quick and go from there. For me I had to launch it a about 4-5K but I was slipping the clutch pretty hard since they sprayed the whole track with vht and I didn't want to rip my tranny out. You can even try this before you get to the track to get a "feel" for it. :hellyeah:

It cost me $15 for test and tune all night.

1G maps are very aggressive, so you should also check the base timing, as per the VFAQ with a timing light, to make sure its at 5* BTDC.

well i launch @ 7k rpm LOL, i peel out all 4 turning a lil side ways but nothing i cant correct quickly, nothing has broke, ive done it about a dozen times already FTW!!!

^^I don't know how good the tracks are where you live but the one I go to they spray VHT down the WHOLE track. A buddy of mine was running his LS1 Comaro (He has Mickey Thompson street slicks), he didn't even do a burnout and was launchin at 3K without spinning. Basically, if its a sticky track I wouldn't suggest "dumping" the clutch. I was just letting mine out fairly quickly then stomping on the gas. I was still getting 2.1 60 ft times which isn't terrible for how easy I was launching.
