Ok, so I replaced my head couple weeks ago, because my old head the valve guides were shot. So the new head was machined, with new valves, valve seals, valve guides, and BC springs, and I decide to replace all of the gaskets and remove the balance shafts(why not). Now the car runs but no matter what I do I get knock, but it will not read past 43 counts of knock.:notgood: I redid my timing, and bought a new knock sensor, but I still get knock. Plus I need the car to be running good by Saturday night and its Thurday. SO PLEASE HELP I AM LOST.:cry::cry:

Is there any way to reflash our ECU?

You can buy an EPROM and have it reflashed. Just look through some of the vendors and figure out what you want. How much knock, when, where, engine temp, throttle position, type of fuel and system, and compression ratio? I get more knock at 70 mph than I do under boost.

no more then 43 counts, only when the engine is under load(lower RPMs), when the engine is cold the car drives fine, but when the engine warms up it start to knock, fuel is pump 93 and only a 255hp.

You have what is called phantom knock. Seems to happen to most 6 bolts, especially when you remove BS or add solid motor mounts. Does it do it when you at idle and you rev the motor? Does it do it when you go WOT? If so can you start around 4-5k rpms without it happening?

A good way to get rid of the knock to find out its PK is when your going WOT and you see the knock, release the gas real fast and get back on it. Usually that will get rid of the PK. I have the problem and cant get rid of it.

3 counts of knock is roughly 1* of timing so 43 counts of knock is redic.
Just for good measure, pop the ECU open and make the the caps didnt leak their juice onto the knock board. OR unscrew the knock sensor from the block and tape a thick rag around it and tie it up, Take a roll around the block and see if you record knock, If it still picks up knock check the ECU if not its most likely phantom knock/picking up noise and vibration from somthing in, on, or around the motor.

I also have the infamous "Phantom knock". It's a new sensor and I've torqued it correctly. The knock is only there while cruising in the lower rpms, especially in 5th gear. It goes all the way up the 43 counts of knock, instantly. My Eclipse is a daily driver and I'm always on the highway so, I moved the sensor to another location. It's lower on the block and the knock is gone. I sometimes get a few counts if I leave when the car is still warming up. It's only temporary until I have time to do more tests or get the knock code burned into the eprom.

With the setup Im running with e85 I dont really ever see real knock. Im actually thinking of removing the knock sensor from the block and not even using it anymore.
