USB to serial cable adapter AEM

I just wanted to make a thread that someone could search for in the future. I bought an AEM and dont have a serial port on my gateway laptop. I called all around town to find a PCI card? to put in but no one had any. I went to radioshack, walmart, officemax, and finally Office Depot. I found a Belkin "USB to Serial portable adapter" and lucky for me it actually worked. Car started and idled on the first try.

How much did you pay for the cable? 30+bucks? If you plan on tuning with any software that requires a serial connection (loggers and DSMLink) Search online for Serial to USB adapter cables, they can be shipped for under 15 bucks You might have to download drivers though like me for the cable.

After reading the AEM forums the problem for me was being able to return the cables if they didnt work. Thats why I visited so many places, everywhere but office depot wouldnt let me return the adapter if it didnt work. and at 24.99-34.99 I didnt want to get a bunch of money wrapped up in a useless cable.

The belkin adapter was 43.23 with tax.

I use a usb to serial adapter for dsmlink. I found it at radio shack for around 35$.

Ive found this is one of the only ones that work properly when you are logging with your laptop.
