ECMlink How good is the base map that comes on DSMLink when you buy it?

Hello, Well this build is finally coming to a end!

All I need to do now is break-in the motor before I hook up the 35r, the 1000cc, and the DSMLink. I didn't want to break in the motor with everything hooked up so i put the built six bolt in and a new act2900-street disc with a act flywheel. I have ran the car now for 100 miles with all the supporting mods, I am just running the turbo off the wastegate right now. I was wandering if the base map that came with DSMLink would be good enough for me to drive the car to a dyno (the closest one is about 150 miles away) to have it tuned professionaly. I don't really want to street tune it myself, since i have never messed with DSMLink and the fact that I have well over 10,000 just in part would make me sick if I messed it up!

I know i got DSMLink from a eBay vendor and I told them all the info and they said it would be setup for my injectors and everything. I guess I could always just take it easy getting there, not boosting and watching my wideband? The only bad part is that its interstate driving the whole way and I won't have a choice but to boost with the speeds I will have to maintain.

Any help!?:talon:

There isn't really a "Base map". You just adjust your global fuel settings and deadtime for your injectors, and it should run like stock. It uses the stock maps for timing and fuel, other than the compensation for injectors. So basically if you ordered it with the proper settings for your injectors and cas inversion, it should just plug in and drive like you didn't do anything.

Once you get to the dyno, your tuner will be able to log it and adjust your fuel, timing, and airflow sliders at different RPM's, as needed. It's a great product and good luck, sounds like you have a nice setup!

yeah i hope everything goes good. So do you think i will be able to drive it to the dyno? when you say adjust those setting for deadtime and af, can i just get on dsmlink forums and they will tell me what to set them to?

You might not be able to gain access to the DSMlink forums since you purchased your copy from an eBay vendor (unless they are reputable and work for or associated with ECM Tuning in some way).

But if you do have access to the forums, there will be a thread on there titled "Getting started" that will have a whole lot of info on how to make sure it's set up with the right setting and then how to start tuning.

I am glad I saw this. I have been wondering the exact same thing. I was so nervous about firing my car up. I thought you basically were firing it up on a retarded ECU until you started fooling with it. so as long as they set your injector size in and what MAF you have it will run like stock? Also, I have a GM translator. I know everyone says with DSMLink to just leave the translator at 0. How would I go about that with my situation. I am the same way as the original poster. I don't wanna mess anything up right away, so I am just gonna take it to AMS and have them have at it.

Make sure your injector dead time and global % are set (good table here - baseinjectordata [ECMTuning - wiki]).

I am also running a MAF-T setup with DSMlink. Just zero everything out and use it just as the translator. You'll have to calibrate the MAF-T with DSMlink. Here's to ways to do it (with the boost source method being preferred):
maftcalibrationbywbo2 [ECMTuning - wiki]
maftcalibrationbyloggedboost [ECMTuning - wiki]
And also the jeffgst link I posted above has some good MAF-T calibration/basic tuning information.

As long as you have a mechanically sound vehicle, the base settings will work fine for you. All you need is to set the Global Fuel setting to the appropriate injector size and you will easily be able to drive the car around town.

1G's need to be a little more careful since the stock timing curve is very aggressive and even though everything is zeroed out, you can still build up quite a bit of knock.
