Octane question????

welp ill just show a list of mods first of wat i have then ill state the question.. ok i got a 1g bov and my boost gauge i have done all the free mods and my boost is usually a steady14 or 15 psi with the boost solenoid restrictor out but sometimes it jumps up to 16 or 17 just for a split second then falls back down to 12 or 13 psi past 5800 rpm on my stock T-25. Now where i live every gas station here in Wichita Kansas has Only 91 Octane as their max premium gas and i was wondering am i risking detonation with this low of octane???? i can get 93 octane one place but that is a 20 minute drive out of the city any insight would help..thx

For that boost level you are having, you only need to make sure fuel pump rewiring mod has been done among your list of mods. At higher boost levels, you may consider octane booster such as Toluene.

I would take the drive for the 93.

A 20 minute drive is not bad at all. I'd say do it for the 93

In my town the highest is 92 and i would still take the drive for 1 point higher.

91 is like the best in so cal right now....lame....i can get 100 for mad $$ at a local 76 and i find myself doing that alot

There are soo many roumors about octaine boost. Get NOS brand Nitrous Oxide booster if anything you can check the ingrediants to see what brands are like NOS

toluene and xylene are the main components of race fuel. In fact many F1 teams in the days of 1000hp/liter engines ran 84% xylene. commercial octane boosters are crap. look at the ones that say "Raises Octane 10 Points!" That means at the recommended mix, it will make 91 octane into 92. one point = .1 octane rating. to make your own go here and read up: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/octanebooster.html

Your fine, perfectly fine, go ahead and enjoy your boost. ON a stock car it can quite easily handle those spikes.
