I was getting around 19 in town and 26+ highway, untill i put the new afpr on and had to retune the car. It was a lot better on gas when the pump was being over run for some reason, now that it's flowing free, i'm getting way lower milage.

I drove in open loop mode for a few weeks getting a lot of the "left over" cels filled in with proper entries to keep teh AFR's from bein overly rich in light load/decel areas especailly. I also richened up my lower boost areas ( 1-7 psi roughly) but the combo of those 2 was yielding me 14MPG YIKES! I've since put the closed loop back in operation but left the low boost areas alone. I'm on the second "test tank": part highway, part in town and usual decent acceleration, but trying to keep out of WOT but i'm still getting into it when i want/need to in traffic. Hopefully my milage will be back to where it was soon, or i'm going back to a stock FPR LOL J/K, But i do think i'll have to buy a different car before too long with the way it's getting with gas and the mods i still have left that are going to eat even more of it

The poll will end up being inaccurate. Everyone's driving habits are different, which will fluxuate results.

I disagree.

If your tracking your millage well enough to give an accurate estimate; then your obviously conscious to the affect your driving habits have on millage. After witch , a persons natural response is an attempt to maximize their economy. At very least, long enough to determine what millage is possible with conservative driving. From personal experience, I've noticed when tanks have been ripped through do to heavy boost during WOT tuning all weekend; I haven't had the hart to do the math. While shelling out at the gas pump those days; I don't think even I want to know!

I'll go out on a limb here that we're all feeling the crunch of higher gas prices. For those of us that drive are vehicles daily, we've already taken steps to cur-teak our evil lead footed ways. At lease while not taunted by over modded, under powered, so called tuner performance vehicles.
LOL:DLOL

If anything, I'd think the sample inaccurate, do to a combination of differences. First assuming everyone tries to stay out of boost; the biggest factor would be individuals equating there millage from one sample of a "full tank". Adding to the issue, the difficult nature of determining what a full tank truly is. Second being differences in vehicle equipment.

I would suggest the serious, to use the same gas station and even the same gas pump during a minimal three tank sampling. Stop the filling at the first click and look for oddities in your data.

Mainly I'm just curious about my seemingly bad mileage lately. I'm really interested in turboglenn's comment about his AFPS being the cause. I too recently installed a Automotive regulator about the same time I noticed a drop in distance. I wish I'd have thought to work that into the poll.

25 MPG highway crusing at 79MPH. Stroker, E316G, low boost, mild cams

Right around 32mpg highway. I take off pretty fast on the on ramps and have some fun on the curves too. Honestly I dont know how, since my old 92 gs got the same mpg with the 4g63 n/a.

Some thing must be wrong with my car! 19mpg if lucky. And I'm not all that fast... well for a DSM any way:toobad:.

I have dsmlink, any suggestion as to what I may want to look for?

I'll put 500 miles a week easy.

If you really want great mpg, go as slow as you can in 5th gear, which is around 25- 35 mph.
In top level mpg competitions the average speeds are around 20 to 25mph.
Don't try it on the freeway. :)

I voted under 20mpg on e85. I get 14.5mpg in the city and about 17.8 on the highway. Deffinently over 300whp.

Ohh and who here gets over 25mpg on e85. Thats just crazy.

I vote 25+mpg 300+hp It's 468awhp on pump to be exact, 505awhp on race gas ;)

I get 24-26mpg driving back and forth to work half city/half really hilly interstate. This usually includes a good 3rd gear pull from 3000 to 8500rpms at least 3 times a tank, if not 5 times :)

Anytime I have only interstate driving I get 30+ easily at 75mph with a best of 32.91mpg. I'm still trying to get it to into the 35mpg range but I don't think it's possible with my setup. A little more compression on the next motor ought to do it though.

I can get close to 400miles to a tank on the highway crusing at 75-80 (NT trans). For some reason, I get about the same mileage as my last two Honda Civics.

I have owned several 1G turbo DSMs.

I had a FWD TSi mostly stock that seen as high as 33 MPG straight highway and 24 around town.

I never had an AWD car get over 27 highway/ 22 city, mildly modified <350 HP and no A/T car get better than 23 MPG highway/ 18 city regardless of modification.

My 91 TSi making over 550 WHP utilizing 1600cc injectors averaged around 15-16 MPG on 93 octane after tedious tuning under normal driving conditions.

Seeing how I started this poll a few years back I figured this would be a good place to post something about gas millage.

The issue I'm about to discuss, I believe deserves a lot more attention in the DSM tech threads than it gets, but that's something for another day...

I have recently determined that my Idle Switch, located at the throttle body and responsible for sending a signal to the ecu when you have removed your foot from the gas peddle, was not working correctly. When this happens your ecu thinks you always have your foot on the gas, even when you're sitting at a stoplight.

If the idle switch is bad or the throttle cable is adjusted to tight the ecu my never know that your foot is off the gas peddle. If this accrues the car can exhibit a number of negative side effects; one negative effect being poor gas millage.

A faulty idle switch may cause: poor gas millage, poor or rough idle, inaccurate idle control (as set in DSMLink), poor idle response when down shifting (particularly when preparing for corners), stalling or almost stalling after engaging the clutch at a stop, poor vehicle performance, poor emission.

A faulty or incorrectly adjusted idle switch is commonly misdiagnosed as a bad ISC motor.

SOLUTION: If you have DSMLink, log and display the value for Idle Switch (IdleSw) and verify that it changes from 0 to 1 when you are fully off the gas peddle. If you don't have DSMLink, make sure that your throttle cable is properly adjusted and not too tight. When the throttle is completely closed is should be resting against the idle switch and fully depressing the idle switch button (or switch). If adjusted to tight, as was my case, the throttle will not fully activate the switch and therefore never send a signal to the ecu that your foot is off the gas peddle.

After fixing my idle switch I have seen roughly a 20% increase in fuel millage; changing from 18 mpg to well over 22 mpg.

E85 17mpg from a highway cruise to the track, 5 passes and back using 24 gal. Yeah I brought a gas can. Webb streets, E3, boltons, 20psi, 6blt, awd.
