Abbotsford,
Do you we have any users of AEM and methanol injection?

My methanol injection nozzle is 6 to 8 inches from the TB, and Im trying to figure out the best place for the IAT sensor for the AEM system.

I dont think you would want it too close to the nozzle, but would like to know what actually works in the real world, from someone with experience.

Thanks

assuming that you do not want the methanol injection to effect your as measured intake air temp, it should be at least three or four inches upstream of your methanol nozzle.

If you do them move it downstream at least the same amount.

I have tried it with the AEM and DSM link. Eventually I just ditched the methanol and want with nitrous.

Thanks for the reply!

Seems like two schools of thought on this...
1. Both nozzle and iat sensor pre TB, with iat sensor closer to throttle body. Give them some space apart.

2.Place IAT sensor in intake mani. This would be very accurate as to what the real air temp hitting the cylinders would be.

#1 seems to have the most consensus. #2 may not give that much higher of a reading of the air temp (temp would most likely rise some in the manifold) and could give some problems with heating the IAT from conduction.

Im leaning towards #1 (as mentioned by big woo), at least to start.

Any other insightful comments or 1st hand knowledge from anyone?

Not related to meth, but I've got my IAT sensor in the TB elbow. I intend to move it because of the conduction issues. Restarting the car after its been sitting for a few minutes is sometimes rough. Turn the key on and check the live values, and it easily will read 60-70 deg above actual air temp for 10-20 seconds of runtime, during which the car runs very lean and rough. I am going to move it just post I/C, the temp won't vary that much from actual intake temps. It also shouldn't heatsoak when the car is not running. If I don't do that I may try mounting the sensor in some type of insulating material.

Just my personal exp and $.02

Thanks for the 1st hand info. I appreciate it.

I will also be looking at ways to insulate the sensor wherever I put it.

N/A motors have it so easy, just put it near the intake and there 'ya go! We have to worry about IC's, turbos, etc....
