finished rebuild myself now freaky fuel pressure

I just rebuilt my 91 awd 5spd.
most of the build was internal with not too much add ons:

8:3:1 wiseco pistons
eagle esp rods
arp studs
evo4 head gasket
new valves
all new front (oil pump, timing tensioner ect ......)
dave brode elbow 2.5
new manifold, but close to stock
walbro 255 with new ss lines to front, but not to back (return)

already had a upper ic pipe and still using same old sidemount and a big 16g

so, I set the timing to 5 btdc, ok maybe should have gone a little more?
I add on a adjustable fuel pressure regulator and this is what happens:

car starts up and idles up and down for a few minutes, then it goes to a normal rpm
* I checked the throttle body and already replaced and set voltage on tps

then the fuel pump reads zero on the guage!

the car idles great up to about 4k then starts to backfire

I did a leak down test. what should my vacuum be at idle?

ia my car possesed?

What brand of FPR are you using? Has the gauge ever worked since you installed it? It is possible that you have the inlet and outlet backward!

You have to be getting fuel pressure if the car is running. Check the gauge. They're only like $20.

Bingo! yep, everyone was right, but the winner is gauges itself. I checked the actual gauge and upon closer inspection, the dial was pushed into the sender itself causing a false reading. I must have slammed the hood down and pushed the face dial into the acutal fpr body. Thank goodness it didn't leak or come off. Thank you everyone for the advice.
