Pocketlogger/S-AFC
OK guys, forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure I understand the whole pocketlogger thing. Does it only log data, and you need a S-AFC to change things? Or can you use it to tune the car too? Please feel free to share all your knowledge. BTW, I have a '92 Galant VR-4.
Also, I read in one thread that S-AFC's are being discontiued. Is that true? If so, what else is on the market that works well? And does anyone know if there are some new fuel computers on the horizon?
Thanx for the help.

the pocketlogger only reads from your sensors and displays it on the palm pilot.. you have no control over anything except the ability to clea CELs..
You would still need a S-AFC.. Ive heard the same that the AFC is being disco'd to be remodeled or something of the sort, the only other one I know out there is the HKS S-AFR I think it is but I dont know anyone whose ever used it before..

The VR-4 is the same as a 1g; its a 6-bolt engine. But the 2g ecu's are different than the 1g's, right? Which means if I want to tune my car thoroughly, I'll need a Datalogger and a S-AFC, and the DSM Link isn't an option.

I have used an AFC on a 1g and I have an AFR on my 2g. I personally like the AFR better. It is a little more difficult to set initially, but once you get the hang of it its rather simple. It has eight or nine rpm based adjustment points instead of five or six like the AFC. I also have pocketloggers on both. The 1g logger is a much better tuning tool than the 2g logger.

But the AFR has no type of load correction. This isn't as big of a deal with 16g and smaller turbos, but with 20gs and larger it is CRAP. You simply can not get the 3-4k range tuned perfectly for both cruising and WOT.

THat is an extremely valid point. Which is why I am taking off the AFR and the pocketlogger and going with the EFI PMS system. It is a great unit, just a little difficult to tune the first time.

im having that tuning woe right now with my buddies galant..
mutt 1, supporting mods, lots of fuel (720's), 2g mas..afc and pocketlogger..
i have it running damm near perfect on 20lbs, 93 octane..except i can't get 4-5k where i want it, im only getting 17 timing and my injectors are giving me a pulsewidth of 16.1 highest down to 15.8, i guess he'll just have to live with it
i havent' decided to go with a afc, afr, or some other system on my talon as of yet..i plan to run the 14b to the ragged edge then switch to something much larger...
any suggestions?

17deg timing with a mutt isn't bad. What I can't understand is why everyone is going with 720's on the mutts. I don't see how it is needed.
I have a Mutt ETE32 and 660's on my talon with no problems whatsoever. What kind of intercooler is your friend running? Might not be efficient enough.

I used to run the EFI system a few years ago. It is a PITA to tune simply because back then I had to hook up two laptops if I wanted to read my knock sum. I never liked the pro flow mas with the HZ count clamped either.
