Question Serial to USB cable for logging

Heya,

I was wondering whether the StarTech.com USB to serial adapter is as good as the Keyspan adapter. It's rated at up to 1 Mbit/sec.

I doubt you will notice a difference between either of them for logging purposes- If you can actually get an entire MB of logging data every second . . . you're going to have more data than you'll know what to do with!

I agree you will not notice a difference in cables. If you read the DSMLink website they state that they only endorse the keyspan cable because its the only cable they have tested. The don't state which cables don't work, so I'm sure they all, or the majority of them do work flawlessly.

Yeah, there is actually a thread in the DSMLink forums that has a rather extensive list of different USB-RS232 cables that work with both the 1G and 2G setups . . .

Unfortunately, I'm currently not able to afford DSMLink. I'm using the S-AFC II + logger setup, got an oldschool PPT Racing interface.

Do I need to set the Keyspan on High Performance (Bulk) or can I keep everything default?

I can tell you firsthand you'll be out of luck with the Startech adapter, or any adapter using the prolific chipset, for that matter.
I'm experimenting with the TI chipset, myself. I'll post results when I get a working model out of my design.
