cams or dsm link?
My mods on a 98 gst spyder
PTE Fiddy trim,
intake,
3"exhaust,
Type S bov,
icp,
mbc,
660's
afpr,
255fp,
AFC,
npr intercooler,
ngk BP7ES plugs
1g TB
act 2600
Arp head bolts and head gasket are going in this month as well as a TRE tranny.
I dont think that the stock cams will put out much more. I can still tune with the afc but not like I could with the DSM Link. Which would be a better next mod for my $ at this point, cams or dsm link?

Hell you can get over 400whp on pump with the link and a pte 50 trim. Cams are a great mod but thing is unless you go like FP2(that's what I'm lookin to get) some hks 264's or something similar your not gonna be able to just throw cams in w/o the risk of valve float. Stock springs and valves won't take 272's or something that crazy for long. Get the link and take advantage of the mods you already have : )

Ok if you DON"T WANT TO CUT CORNERS AND HAVE A CAR THAT LAST then I wouldn't run 272's on completely stock head. Is it possible to get away with running hks 272's on a stock head yes. Is it smart or recomended by ANYONE NO!!!!
"HKS camshafts are direct replacements and are designed to be compatible with the factory valve train components. However, due to the higher profile of HKS camshafts, HKS high performance valve springs are highly recommended, and required in certain applications."
So while they say that HKS camshafts not even refering to the hks 272's directly are made to go along with the stock valve train in some applications(I think that a high hp and one of they're highes duration cams would qualify) that is "highly recommended" or even "required" in certain applications. So you wanna run some HKS 272's on your car with some been around the block springs knock yourself out.
Dsmlink is still the better route.

dude settle down. the fp2s are basically the same thing as the 272s and like you posted dont require valve springs. hks is in it to make money so of course they will upsell the springs.

Yeah your right my bad I was venting a little frustration my bad. While what i said wasn't BLANTANTLY UNTRUE yes people do run hks 272's on a stock head without problems I just don't think it's worth the risk. I have titanium valve springs that are going in as soon as I have port and polsih money for my head so don't think cause I said I wasn't gonna run them it would be for long.

FP2's are slighlty more aggressive than 272's and your saying your fine with them but not the 272's???
Also people spin the stock head setup to 8500 all the time....

Listen you guys I never said no one did it. It's like a guy that vents his bov w/o GM maft or such. Sure some guys have no problems and they are fine but there is a reason that they make titanium valve srpings. If you want to push the envelope and see how far your stock spring last that's cool I wish you god luck I really do I don't want to see any dsm's down but I and ppl who don't like to cut corners wouldn't do it. By the way yeah I know about stock heads reving high but is this with 272's or with stock cams cause I def think that the increase in pressure from the increased duration and lift would put a lot of wear on stock parts at that rpm.
