If I just put in a 190 pump on a friend of mine's car, will we still have to rewire it? I wasn't sure if the bigger pump would rule out the need to rewire it.

Well, it's come to attention recently that the rewire doesn't really help all that much (search for a rewire post withing the past couple of weeks, you'll see what I mean). So, I would say no. Don't do it.

Yeah I have read the posts, but I wasn't sure if it would be safer. He is wanting to run his 90 TSI AWD at 18psi on race fuel, with everything else pretty stock, stock injector, turbo, and that stuff. We have a little grudge match with a LT1 Impala, so we want to beat him pretty good.

The wiring does not determine how much current the fuel pump will draw. The smaller the wiring means their may be more resistance, but how much of a difference will this make? I don't think much.

Before i rewired my 190lph I could hear the whine only when rev'ing the engine sometimes... after the re-wire I could hear it all the time. It's kind of like when you look at your lights sometime, it's a teeny bit dim, and when you rev it comes back to life.

that's enough evidence for me.. :)

Would that be because your alternator was generating more voltage when thr rpm's were higher.

Sure it would be.. but still even when driving I couldn't always hear the fuel pump.. now no matter what rpm, idle or cruising.. I have a constant sound, maybe more of an annoyance, but at least I know my pump is running consistently.
