use of pda with dsmlink?

was looking over the dsmlink. in the faq section it says i can use a pda with it. i already have a pda using pocketlogger with a stage 3 dsmchip and a custom pda mount i made (that allows the pda to sit in the console and run the wire behind the dash. just plugs in and doesn't go flopping around the car while driving). but wanting to convert to a dsmlink when i get my new motor and tranny in.

okay, for the question....has anyone used it with a pda? what can and can't you do with the pda versus the laptop? how would i find out if the pda i have is compatible. i have 2 of them. a zire 71 (which is for my car) and a zire 72 for everyday use. the use of a pda would be good for when i'm not using a laptop in the car but wondering what the limitations are. tried looking at the forums on the website but guess i have to own the product 1st or something? i dunno. any useful info would be appreciated. thanks!

search harder and you will see that hal landry made it possible for dsmlink to run on the pda platform

yes i knew that already. but that didn't answer my questions. i know it's possible to use the pda, but for example, what do you have to do to hook it up to the pda? what kinda cable? what features are not able to be used, etc. since it says the lalptop is for fine adjustments, blah blah blah. it only talks about and only has screen shots on the website for the laptop. and i couldn't register for the dsmlink forums.

tried to even do a search for "hal" being that he's the one that came up with the idea and maybe has spoken about this in some other threads but being that he comes on as a guest, i can't find his threads nor even pm him. oh well....

Go here:
http://www.dsmlink.com/faq.html#pda
and scroll down to "Can I use DSMLink with a PDA?"
Several questions will be answered there

Below is some more info. I'm only listing what's not the same. If you don't see it, it's the same as the PC version. The things not implemented are very minor things.

First, it is very much like the P/C client, and VERY unlike the previous Palm versions.
Most P/C client features are available and work the same.
There are some additional features.
Close - Not implemented. Logfile closure is automatic.
Export - Not implemented
Save - Not implemented
Save As - Not implemented
Cut - not implemented
Copy - not implemented
Paste - not implemented
Notes - not implemented
Default notes - not implemented
Graph - not implemented
Scale - not implemented
Autoframe - not implemented
Smooth RPM - not implemented
Normalize time - not implemented
Normalize RPM - not implemented
Clip to start - not implemented
clip to end - not implemented
Online - not implemented
Stream on - not implemented

I hope this helps
Good luck

yeah, i had already seen the faq section you pointed out. it really doesn't say too much about it though. for example, pocketlogger only has certain pda's that'll work with it. and you have to buy a specific cable depending on the pda you have. so how would the pda be hooked up if you're not wanting to use the laptop? i'm wondering if the cable i have that came with the pocketlogger software does just fine. hmmm, wish there was more info about the pda portion of dsmlink on there. feel free to chime in....those in the know. thanks!

Zire probably won't work.

You use a pda serial cable, null modem adapter, and the DSMLink adapter to communicate between the pda and the ecu.

Edit: Forgot, you also need a gender changer.
