Boost Leak?

I live in Florida and own a '97 Eclipse GS-T that is stock except for a K&N FIPK, Blitz BOV and a cat-back exhaust. The issue I am experiencing is that whenever it’s very hot out and I am accelerating at WOT, it seems that the BOV starts emitting a constant "honk" sound. If I continue to accelerate, the engine will start stumbling until I let off the throttle or shift gears. I tried tightening the spring adjustment of the BOV, but that only helped a little. Has anyone else experienced this same situation with the same BOV or another brand? Could it be boost leak? Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

First of all stay out of the boost in very hot weather. Get colder Sparkplugs. NGK Bpr7es and gap them to .28 MOst likely boost leak. But change the Plugs first.

It's possibe that it's a boost leak. The honk could be the air pushing past the BOV(leaking). It's also possible that it's something else.

The best way to find out if your BOV is leaking is to do a boost leak test.
Slowly turn up the pressure while you put your hand over the BOV port.
You will feel it when it starts leaking. Watching the guage will also let you know at what PSI it starts leaking at.
Plus you can find and eliminate all other boost leaks you have.
Don't forget to spray everything with soapy water so you can see the leaks

Good luck

I tried the plugs but to no avail. I will now bring it in to check for a boost leak...

I removed the BOV and put the factory by-pass on. The issue went away, so I am going to try replacing the spring in the BOV.

You venting?

This happened to me when I was forced to vent for awhile, the BOV was opening a little and letting some air out, recirculating fixed it for me

Not now I'm not. I put recirc hose on the factory valve and the issue has gone away.

I found the problem that was causing everything....

A very loose clamp on the intercooler's inlet hose

I started hearing a whooshing noise after I put on the by pass valve which made me investigate harder. I tightened it up real good, no whooshing, put on the BOV and no more honking! w00t!

Disconnect the battery, but if the problem is still there it will just come back on.

I have been driving around with mine on for 2+ years now, you get used to it
