SOrry if this is a repost, i just couldn't find a thread that said the best #s

After my car warms up, i idle at about 1000F. When cruising its usually about 1300 to 1350 at around 60mph or so. When i floor it, i just make sure it never goes over 1600. This number can obviously be biased based on timing settings which could easily raise the temperature. Not to mention i know im running a little leaner than some.

Its worth to have one IMO. You cannot tune by it, but its a great backup for daily driving. Mine is usually near 1000* at idle and you never want to go over 1600*. Once you get near 1600*, your probably knocking at that point anyways.

badboyr66, what is the point in mounting it after the turbo? What number(s) do you look for when it is mounted there?

I guess for people scared about the tip of the probe breaking off. Also, I think the issue is just establishing a baseline temp at that location and looking for any significant changes (as opposed to making sure EGT's stay belo 1600)

Actually, after the turbo temps can be up to 250-300 degrees lower. Thats all. Bearing that in mine when tuning you will be fine

mine is tapped on the exhaust manifold, usually when i'm running it, i see it around 1400, and yeah i pretty much use it as i guide that when i'm around 15/16 i let off it.

From what I can remeber. A Aluminum will start melting around 1,400 degrees. I could be wrong. But I feel 900 degrees is damn good for a street car
