So, I been trying to tune with the MAFT for several months now, and have been having lots of problems. Couldn't get fuel trims right, then if I did, I was getting knock. I always knew it wasn't the MAFT, but thought it was something I was doing wrong.

I had installed a big 16G, new dp, 02 housing and MAFT. Then the car felt slower that it was when stock. So I tuned and tuned and tuned. No good.

I think I finally found what my problem was. I decided today that I was going to shim my wastegate, because my Big 16G wasn't spooling like I know it should. I thought I can at least fix my spool up, and keep working at the tuning. I put two washers on each side, tightened it up and started the car.

My first pull was incredible and I almost sh*t my pants. The boost gauge (my controller I had set at 15 psi) shot to 20 and pegged there. I stopped the car, adjusted the controller again to what I thought would be 15, did another first gear pull, and the gauge pegged at 20 again. I adjusted one more time, and this time it was at 15.

The part throttle knock I was constantly getting almost disappeared. Because the wastegate was obviously not closing all the way, boost was leaking, and I must have actually had like 30 pounds of boost, and that was why I was getting the part throttle knock.

I ran the crap out of the car, doing mad pulls, shocked by the power she actually has. I have all stage one and two mods from dsmtuners.com and I had been very disappointed that the car felt so slow. Now, because of 4 simple washers, the car is just awesome.

My fuel trims have all stabilized, my spool up is crazy, and the pull is like mad. Sorry if I sound all jazzed, but I have never felt my car pull this hard. I'm chirping tires in every gear and hopping like mad, but damn she halls. :D

when do u get full boost?

Yeah, I'd love to know what you did. Grab pic or just explain a little more about where you put the washers and when exactly you reach full boost and at what boost it is, please.

Okay, fellas. I'll answer all of your questions.

EndzOr: I get full boost around 3500 RPM--before, I just started spooling around this time.

Diceman19 & QuickSilverGSX9: Here is a picture that a fella put in a thread I started a while back when my turbo wasn't spooling like I knew it should:

Go here for the thread I started a while back when I realized my turbo wasn't spooling right. blcknspooln posted a picture of his shim job.

Basically, you remove the two bolts that hold the wastegate to the turbo. Gently pull the wastegate away from the turbo and put the washers between the turbo and the wastegate, then put the bolts back in. You can start with one and put as many as you need (if you go more than three, you'll need some longer bolts).

Now, if your wastegate flapper is already tight, you really don't need to do this.
